This trade, plus cutting Garver loose makes me wonder if a deal for a solid free agent catcher is iin the works. Danny Jansen or Victor Caratini? Someone who could catch enough games so that Cal doesn't have to be behind the plate 130 games a year?

Of course, Jansen and Caratini aren't in the same league as Cal defensively, but they wouldn't be bad as backups.
It sounds like Garver might be coming back on a cheap deal

Nothing. Don't want Marte. I hear he's a locker room cancer from various people. Don't know if there's any truth to hear but I've read that a few places.
Yes, Marte did some weird inexplicable stuff last season, including taking a family vacation mid-season completely without permission, and without even telling the team. He even missed his own bobblehead night:

Also, the year before that, when the Diamondbacks missed the playoffs by one game, he asked to sit out games when he was perfectly healthy.

Arizona fans have been generally supportive of Marte and want him back, but he also gets heckled by fans in his home stadium.

Just one more bat, hope it's a damn good one. Hope the starting pitching has a bounce back year.

I like Alex Bregman, but $180 million is too much. He's looking for a 5-6 year deal, and he's going to be 32, which means that you'll be paying well into his declining years. He is without a doubt a great hitter, but he hasn't hit over 30 HRs except in 2018 and 2019. If he hits 18 HRs in Fenway Park (or let's say 25 since he was injured for part of the year), what's will that translate to in T-Mobile Park?

Given that Scott Boras is his agent, and the fact that Pete Alonso just got $155 million/5 years from the Orioles, Bregman is going to be pretty expensive.

Geez...they should negotiate a yearly limit on these contracts. Four or five years tops sounds about right.
