Eugenio I could go either way on. Need some bullpen arms. Second base. Ryan Bliss? Cole Young? Someone else? Starting pitching id be ok if we just rolled with what we have. Polanco DH? Definitely need some outfield help. Harry Ford backup or trade?

It will definitely be an interesting off-season and I hope we don't dumpster dive. We're too damn close to do that.

The mariners will never reach the world series scoring 3 runs per game. They honestly didn't even deserve to be in the playoffs.
I don't want to hear anything about pitching or defense. We have to upgrade 4 or 5 positions so we can score runs.
I don't care if we have to fill our roster with the worst defensive players in baseball, as long as they can hit.

If the mariners want to reach the world series they will need to approach their roster the way world-series-contending teams do: if you can't hit, you can't be on our team. It's that simple.

World Series champions almost never get there by holding their opponents to 1 or 2 runs. They get there by scoring more runs than their opponent.

Pitching doesn't win championships.
Defense doesn't win championships.
Scoring more than your opponent wins you championships.

JP Crawford, was a total offense no show these playoffs. You can move Crawford.

Naylor, should be paid. Geno, is more complicated. I think Geno, is largely the guy that is better suited to bat with the lead than from behind. His Grand Slam was the thing of Mariners Legendry. Arozarena, didn’t have good ABs these playoffs but contributed well enough defensively and as lead off, base running was good. Arozarena, kept getting hit by pitches and took walks that way. Didn’t hit particularly well but I’d keep Randy. Polanco, was fantastic. Pay Polanco and Naylor. Mariners, need a solid DH. Severely lacking in that area. The Mariners starting rotation somewhat crumbled. That can also be revamped honestly.

Doubt we'll sign Naylz before he tests FA. I hope he takes an offer with him when he leaves, a good one.

I hope to too, but ownership and GM are going to need to make a number of smart strategic moves to make it happen:

Right now I feel like the Jeff Passan take above but that could instantly swing to anger if they don't sign Naylor and others then cheap out.

It's not like they don't have previous for cheaping out.

Excellent suggestions:

I made a comment Monday night to a friend of mine that I'm pretty sure someone has one of those Men In Black memory erasers and before every at bat hits Julio with it because he has 0 idea what a slider looks like. He swings so freely at them like he has never seen one in his life.

It's just wild. Any kid little league and up knows when you're up 2-0 in the count you only swing if you get your unicorn pitch. Even if its a strike its likely to be a pitchers strike so take there. I'm baffled there is no coach who talks to him before that at bat and/or he isn't already aware of what to do if not pre at bat at least during the at bat. They threw him 6 balls and he struck out. I love Julio but man that was hard to watch with Cal on deck.

I've now heard it all. Somehow, the Mariners didn't "deserve" to be in the playoffs.
Also, how quickly people forget that Julio had a double (and then scored) and a HR in this game.
I give up. Go M's, Go Hawks

FFS.

No one forgets anything. He did all that while striking out on horrible not even close to the plate pitches in multiple at bats in the series. He can and did do both. It's ok to be critical when necessary. The guy can't hit a slider. But he's our guy that can't hit a slider.
