Any good college kickers that could come and compete? I don't doubt Walsh's ability but if he is gone mentally I don't think you can fix that.

Most college kickers don't get drafted, so I'm sure we can pluck an UDFA from somewhere if they have indeed moved on from Hauschka. I just don't think that's the case quite yet.

I know we won't draft one but will there be any good udfa around who are money, even at FBS level?

Side note...look how hungry we are for new news. I can't wait for the meat of the offseason to actually start.

They also won the Super Bowl so your point makes no sense. Both of these kickers missed field goals that cost their teams games. Important games too. One playoff game. And a bye week and home-field advantage.

Gostkowski has been great for the pats but missed an extra point in the super bowl

this doesnt really bother me i just hope we do a lot more than this

I thought he struggled this year? Most Patriots fans I know are happy to get rid of him and he was a missed 2 point conversion away from possibly costing them the superbowl due to that extra point being missed.

My feelings on Walsh. He has had 2 bad years in the league and obviously we all remember the miss that sent us to Carolina. But, his first 2 years in the league he was arguably the best kicker in the league and has a huge leg. So, if he is right between the ears it could be a nice signing. I still think they bring in competition for him.

Kickers are a funny animal. Remember Olindo Mare? He was good for us, but was terribe for New Orleans forba couple years before he came here, before he was is NO he was one of the best in the league with Miami.

Blair walsh is finally gonna come full circle. Hes been haunted by the miss in the wild card and its affected his play. Now that he is with the seahawks the curse is over.

As long as they bring in another kicked to compete with him, I'm all for it.

If it's just him, then that'll be a huge mistake

This is a funny coincidence. I was playing Madden the other day and made this same move. Is Pete looking at my save files?

Well, he reads this board all the time and takes our advice, so I wouldn't put it past him.

He was basically just as bad as Hauschka last year. This is not an upgrade. Hopefully he's just a stop-gap signing so we have a kicker on the roster and a real replacement can be found. Otherwise I'd just rather see Hauschka re-signed on a cheaper deal.

I'm not sure either. But the guy was a damn good kicker before we ruined the poor guy.

Once these guys get their groove back they are usually fine. So.....maybe it can work?

Me too. In some ways, the off season is just as fun and interesting to me as the regular season.

Not reading anything into this signing.

He's a hedge in case Hauschka signs elsewhere. If he does sign here, then we got competition and the best guy moves forward.

It's a smart hedge for the unknowable scenario of whether someone else lures Hauschka away in UFA. Walsh kind of fell apart last year. Before that he was very accurate. If he doesn't work out, it's no big deal to cut him and move on.

Good signing. Doesn't have any bearing on whether we bring back Hauschka or not. Really it's a low cost win-win scenario for us.

Hopefully there is a competition, and the best kicker wins. Weather it is Walsh, Haush, or an udfa, I don't care.

Walsh was historic for the Vikings for a couple years.. then he started to fade, then the wheels came all the way.

2nd chance ever work out for kickers?

It worked out for Hauschka after he was run out of Baltimore.

When the Seahawks played the Ravens (Marshawn ankle break on Lewis game), I heard some local Baltimore radio sports dude say that the Seahawks couldn't possibly win because Hauschka was their kicker. He was a pariah; 9/13 and missed big kicks.

The scary part of this signing is his case of the yips didn't ever show up until big time pressure was put on him. That could easily win him the job since he otherwise is money, then may not bite us in the ass until some huge playoff or SB kick comes into play. Think I'd side toward any rook that is even close the more I think about it.
