Bucs have made the move: Benching Josh Freeman for Mike Glennon, per league source.

After an 0-3 start, it is finally done. Dude was decent his first few years but definitely wasn't anything special.

TB got a lot of talent for a good QB to step in if they can get one.

Being an NC State fan, I've watched every snap of Glennon's college career. He will struggle until he gets into a rhythm. I hope the Bucs allow him time to develop. He's got a great arm, and he'll make some spectacular plays, but he's not one that can run away from pressure and he will turn the ball over. I'm pulling for him to do well, of course, but I'm way more nervous for his success than I was for RW. I think he would have benefited from being on the bench a year.

Seems like a move that had to happen. HC didn't seem to hold Freeman in much regard. Will be interesting to see what happens now with Glennon. They have talent on the offense and if they can get production from him, they can much better than they have been.

Be interesting for Pack fans.

If Mike Glennon holds the Buccaneers job in Week 9 he'll square off against ... Russell Wilson and the Seahawks.

Funny that this came within 48 hours of them saying he's not gonna get benched.

Really spectacular how far Freeman has fallen. Consider:

PLAYER A/PLAYER B

A. Passed for 3118 yards on 64.1% with 26 TDs, 10 INTs, and 489 yards rushing.
B. Passed for 3451 yards on 61.4% with 25 TDs, 6 INTs, and 364 yards rushing.

A is Russel Wilson last year and B is Freeman in 2010.*

The point here is that in his second year Freeman looked like he might have even better than Russel Wilson, and Bucs fans reasonably probably thought they had a Russel Wilson on their hands.

I don't think anyone would have guessed that he'd fall of so dramatically since then. I for one was still a little higher on him than most and was still deluding myself into thinkng he'd get it together again this year.

*(should be obvious from the post, but I'm a 9ers fan so I'll say it anyway: this comparison is in NO WAY a subtle dig at Wilson, and the point is how dramatically Freeman has flopped. I really love, love, love Wilson as a QB and think he has an incredibly bright future).

Schiano ruined this dude. He was a very solid player at one point and has utterly fallen off a cliff since the last part of last season. I'll be surprised if Glennon stands a chance.

LOL, as NC State fans know---You can't keep Glennon on the BENCH!!!

I'm worried that he will be much like Geoff George in the NFL--hell of an arm, statue in the pocket, not the best decision maker.

Like you said, it was his second year in which he did that after his first year which was bad. Obviously different than someone having done something similar to that their first year.

He probably gave a lot of hope to TB fans that thought he turned the corner with those type of numbers, than the year after that, he went right back to mediocrity with 16 TD, 22 INT.

He's so inconsistent so I am not surprised. NFLN was saying something to the effect that the players had lost faith in him because of off field and on field issues.

On a side note: NC State is QB U--suck it USC. Rivers, Wilson, and Glennon all starting for NFL teams. HA! And, no ACC championships to show for it either.

Schiano is an awful coach - the type of person who thinks he's Belicheck and can act like it.

Also, have you seen Glennon's neck? The dude probably gets whiplash from nodding.

Yeah, never understood the Schiano hype. This reeks of a last ditch effort to save his job.

I used to like Josh Freeman...could've been good with a RW-type work ethic. But hearing how he's missed film sessions and falling asleep during team meetings does not bode well for the guy. The talent is there though, so hopefully he wakes up before he ends up like Vince Young

Glennon is a blonde ginger. Rare.

I agree to a degree. However, I think Freeman started his fall from grace before Schiano got there. The coach just caused him to fall all the way. My feeling is, he can be reclaimed and become pretty good again by the right coach and offensive system.

Seems like he should get some TD dance coaching from Merton Hanks.

I agree. Freeman showed some amazing things in his first couple of seasons--including a ton of late-game comebacks.

I think the Vikings should make a move. No quarterback has it easier than the guy with Adrian Peterson standing behind him, but don't tell Christian Ponder that.

Unfortunately Rivers was one year off. That defense was ranked number 1 in the country the year after Rivers senior year. 3 guys in the first round as you probably remember even if McCargo shouldn't have been a first rounder :). That is probably as close as we will be to building a team that would be on the big stage. I do like what Doeren is doing and if the refs just would mark someone out-of-bounds and not blow the whistle things would possibly be very different this year

Separately - Glennon I agree 100% he will cause turnovers. I know he had crap for receivers at NC State but some decisions were just poor. Unreal arm and many scouts loved his release etc.

Personally I think he will be like Beuerlein. Good quarterback but there will always be that one interception in a game that really costs you.......

Looking forward to Josh Freeman competing as our backup next year.

The race for the bottom is officially on. Freeman may be an inconsistent QB, but when he's on, he's just about unstoppable. Glennon looked mostly awful this preseason and was a limited prospect to begin with. They are making this move either because Schiano really is as stupid as people think he is, or because Mark Dominik is fully aware of the possibility that Josh Freeman could torpedo his team's chances for a top QB with a late season flourish. Maybe Dominik thinks he can survive a 3-13 season by blaming Schiano? Or maybe he figures this is his only real shot at fixing his QB problem, and it's better to take a big risk than to not take one and face certain doom.
