I respectfully disagree. When Dotson and Baker weren't working out, he piveted immediately and made the move for EJIV. That shows great communication between the HC and GM. Also, dropping Grubb as OC after 1 season and working with MM to find a run first OC. The days of throwing draft picks at a dart board to make trades during the season appear to be gone. We also took a good OL in the first round in forever. I am thrilled to have him extended.
I'm not disagreeing but i'd still like to see that translate into wins before committing to 4 years. They did after all hire Grubb in the first place and im still in wait and see mode with the OL which has mostly always been a weakness under him.

John was once a top 5 GM and presently hovers around top 12. With the chains of Pete's meddling removed I think he will return to a top GM, if he can fix the OLine. Moving forward I do not see future collaborations between JS & MM to involve long in the tooth and expensive FA's.
The 25' offseason & draft point to a bright future for Hawk fans.

Jody obviously feels comfortable with JS, and it's probably nice for her to not to have think about making major organizational changes between now and whenever it is that the team is sold.

I trust MM more so than I trusted Pete towards the end of his tenure.

Personnel-wise, Pete a gambler. He believes that he can manage/fix anybody.

He gambled with Harvin, Graham and Adams to name a few... and none of them worked out the way that Pete envisioned it... and we wanted it.

Leaving John in charge of personnel is working beautifully right now because all indications are John is being heavily influenced by MM... and THAT is goodness... if not the perfect working relationship between HC and the GM.

Maybe it's a 1-year prove-it deal with 3 conditional team-option years. A 4-year guarantee for a GM of a franchise that doesn't win playoff games doesn't make any sense - unless you want to be the Giants.

Darnold and Kupp are effectively on 1-year prove-it deals. I don't see why this GM should be any different. If Darnold and Kupp end up being a waste of $55M then all 3 should be gone.

I think the RW trade, the recent handling of DK and Geno, plus the last couple drafts and oh-by-the-way going out and getting Mike Macdonald are why he's getting this extension.

I've been critical of some of Schneider's decisions in the past, but I like this move.

I like JS. I’m mostly comfortable keeping JS, because I like the current direction with MM and I can see the progress.

I think the OL hangups are a bit played out, because it’s easy to see the resources being put into it, and a lot of good steps have been taken. My bigger concern overall is that he seems to construct teams that have a high floor, but lack true elite talent. That’s what I personally would have wanted to see better results with before I made another commitment.

I also wonder if this is because Jody Allen thinks keeping around a very stable organization will help with the team’s sale at some point.

Do you know this how?
Source:

“Trust me, bro.”

Also additional source:

“Trust me, bro. I’ve seen for years Schneider’s offensive line.”

If the entire time Carroll did not want to fix the offensive line and it was a Carroll final decision, NOW, Schneider can write his own story with the offensive line.

Schneider, has already began the change with the Zabel pick. I gotta give Schneider his opportunities to address this since he is now the defacto in charge of the entire operations…

I am giving Schneider his opportunities with this chance to prove himself through this extension.

I’ll take it!

GM salaries are not subject to the salary cap. Jody could fire him at any time. Don’t need contracts for admin or coaches to look like player contracts. Jody could pay him the equivalent of the team salary cap and it wouldn’t matter a bit in the overall team economics.

I’ve been very critical of Schneider in the past. Like, an annoying level of critical.

However, I support giving stability for Macdonald to flourish. The organization obviously has a clear plan in place, so I’m good with seeing it through.

And heck, if the team totally blows, there’s nothing preventing him from being fired.

Wow, I would have liked to have seen how this year played out first. He did crush this past draft though, or so it would seem.

We know this. It isn't the issue. I don't care if Schneider is gifted $100M. It's whether Schneider having a 4-year contract is good for the franchise and it sets the right tone. If Schneider is sacked 1 year into a 4-year extension it means the next GM contract isn't worth a damn. That might impact who replaces him and how they approach the job. Equally it might not.

From the outside it looks like sustaining mediocrity. Continuation is safe and easy. Change is hard and dangerous. I'm not positive about the 2025 team so i'm not a fan of this move. I can understand people who are very positive about the 2025 team liking this move a lot.

Consider that Mike is going to get 3-4 years to prove himself, IMO. He had a pretty successful first year. If you're planning to keep your Head Coach for that interval, it's probably a good idea to hold onto some continuity in the Front Office as well.

You can argue how good of a GM/President he's been over the last 15 years. That's fine. I consider this a vote of confidence for MM as much as an endorsement of Scheider.

And remember, this probably isn't a guaranteed contract. If shit goes south in a hurry (which I don't expect) he can still be fired. Seems to me that Jody doesn't think things will deteriorate.

The future is so bright, I have to wear

Agree and my take on this development indicates Jody has no intent to sell the team within the next four years.
