My question is if he wins, and there is no penalty, does he play again for the Hawks this year. In other words, I wonder if he can come back from the groin injury in time to make an impact if he does win the appeal...hmmmm....

Thanks for the link. That was a surprisingly quick read....hmmm.

Anyway, to immediately preface this, maybe we can bypass all the "obligatory" arguments about how Pot is legal in Washington, and on the other side that he's selfish (....and on and on ad naseum).....that's all been covered in the multiple other threads arguing about Browner's latest suspension.

To directly address the article, I think it's pretty silly to expect someone who's unsigned to have to show up for pee tests, it's not like someone who literally signs their freedom away like people in the service.....the US government literally OWNS their rear-ends, but that's not the case in the NFL, a little too intrusive in my opinion, especially expecting someone who's not being paid to have to do that.

Well, my quick :twocents: anyways.

Seems like a stretch. Why did he have to wait until he was suspended to bring this issue up. It is like a renter vacating the premises and says to the landlord that hole in the wall was there since the beginning. If there was a long standing issue, you can't wait until it is a problem to first mention it. Takes away all your credibility.

Yes.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but he should be able to make it back in time for the playoffs or maybe even the last few reg. season games.

Rather than bury this bit of info in the already-long second Browner thread, let's discuss that here.

Thank You! Really tired of the old Browner thread that was too long to add new topics to. You go five pages deep, add a new topic and it disappears in a thread that deteriorated pages ago.

I would have to think he still gets suspended, but just less games. He is not appealing his failed test. He is appealing where he is in the program.

If he does come back....and Thurmond comes back in time for the Rams game or at least the play-offs I'll be feeling pretty good about our D...and not only that, what a lift it would be for the team in general to have those guys back in time for a championship run. Not gonna get my hopes up just yet though...

He probably figured it was ancient history, no longer relevant to his life.....a perspective that quickly changed after getting busted.

Why argue something that no longer matters?

I heard Clayton say if he wins the appeal there is zero games penalty...just repeating what I heard.

Oh? That would make this one his first offense?

I don't know enough about the specifics to say much more on this...but did you guys see the twitter thing that Cox posted after he was cut today? Said he wasn't cut for his playing but for another reason...and he couldn't comment on it. Wonder if there is some sense that Browner will be back? Pure conjecture on my part. I still like Maxwell and Lane and think we'll be ok...but man, what a boost it would be to get both of those guys back.

If he recently failed another drug test (according to Clayton), what makes anyone believe he won't fail another one before the Super Bowl? I'm all for second, third chances ... but when someone keeps making the same mistake over and over again ... it really gets harder to trust them.
Regardless of what happens going forward, I just don't feel good about this thing. Golden Tate said it best ... Some guys are simply too selfish. But the show must go on !!!

I'm not going to assume this "first offense" (or whatever number winds up being appropriate) is anything more than failure to take a test until more substantiated information is available.

According to Clayton, the 4 game suspension doesn't happen until your third offense (which isn't my understanding). Clayton claims Thurmond was fined money with no loss of games on his second offense and got 4 games suspension on his third. Clayton is claiming this is Browner's 2nd offense and thus no suspension. But he also says he doubts the league would go by this ruling and **may** treat it like his 3rd and only suspend him 4-6 games.

We will see. I don't think Browner will get the league to reverse itself on this suspension. I think they will say it was his obligation to complete his stage 1 requirements as stated in the CBA whether he was out the league or not and missed tests put him into lifelong monitoring stage 3.

Ridiculous penalty as there is a new CBA in effect. If Browner did get an indefinite suspension, he should be pissed at his union. Instead of devoting so much effort to make the NFL look bad and on getting face time in front of the microphone, D Smith, Jeff Saturday and Drew Brees should have been reviewing the contract that they eventually signed.

There are quite a few rules in that final version that have screwed the average NFL player. And imho, the ones responsible are the ones that were always yakking on TV. They spent a lot of time fighting blood tests for HGH and completely missed this issue. But I guess if your a former player not paying dues, then they don't give a isht.

To reiterate, BB's stage three program should have been tossed out with the old CBA. Especially for players that went to the CFL.

At the very least there should have been language that would assist a former player who was broke. Hopefully BB can show them copies of his unemployment checks.
