He was gassed out there, he hasn't played much and the heat got to him. I'm disappointed he wasn't in better shape going in, but he's been banged up. We knew going in that Carolina had multiple studs on the interior, that was a mismatch going in, and it played out as such. It happens, the line as a whole will play better. One game isn't a damnation of a player, a unit, or a team, I thought we learned that last year.

Notice he didn't say coach here.

So, we can still blame Cable for things?

My point is; the line as a whole played bad. And yeah, Wilson had some real odd and uncharacteristic mental mistakes which didn't help things either.

Plus, like last year after week one, I'll remind you that the opponent is a GOOD defensive line.

Last year it took people a few weeks before they realized "Cardinals just have a good defensive line...the Hawks offensive line had a challenge". Same thing this week. In a few weeks we'll look back and say "Panthers just have a good defensive line...the Hawks offensive line had a challenge".

Carp will ALWAYS be the whipping boy here, especially for rubes like me, who don't know enough about the line to evaluate specific players. "Carp sucks" is a very safe thing to say. It just is.

Like I said...I always like your posts. I am actually more down on Cable than Carp (Moffitt or Sweezy).

I am (overall) very pleased with the win and have no doubt we will play much better next week. C'mon you cheese-eatin' mofos.

I actually forgot to say coach. Like you said, this offensive line looked like piss in the opener last year, i think they turned out ok.

And, people call out Carpenter because he played RT his rookie year, a position the Seahawks never drafted him for. That makes me look smart, really. I'm one of the "dumber" posters on here, and even I know OL is about continuity. How long has Carp been healthy again?

XOXO

Blair Bush

I believe there's a feeling that Carp came in way out of shape his rookie year, which also contributed to his struggles (certainly didn't help). As well, the feeling that the injuries and conditioning are related.

Last year he did play better when he was healthy. The conditioning/health thing just seems to linger, though.

Hard to get good when you constantly miss practice and games with injuries.

Carp will get better when he can stay on the field every week.

Yea, I think he's just rusty and out of shape. I sure hope he gets better in a hurry, Justin Smith is going to tear his ass up.

You really have to watch an OL every play to know how well he did. I did not. But when I did notice him, it was for bad reasons.

I will say this, I am not sold on his athleticism one tiny bit. There is a reason the team was working Bowie and Bailey at LG. You don't need to be a great athlete for Tom Cable's system, but I am starting to have doubts about Carpenter clearing the minimum threshold for athleticism in a zone scheme.

If Carpenter repeats his history, he will play his way into game shape over the course of 3 and more probably 4 weeks.

So ...... this is one game down.

I predict he will be ready in time for the Texans matchup in Houston.

I believe he is refering to Carpenter's mobility.

Power is Carpenter's strength. But he is not without a vulnerablity.

Did you guys notice his piss poor play today? Several times I saw him barely getting in the way of defenders as they ran right by and around his slow ass.

Dude is just garbage. Worst pick of the Carroll era.
Wish he would have been part of the final cuts. Dude looks like a stiff out there. He's slow off the snap, poor against the pass, and was limping after multiple plays.

Ugh.

There was one play, he gets to the second level, Kuechly is right in front of him, Kuechly is one quick dude for his size, slips right by him of course. Carpenter about broke an ankle and went falling back all off balance. What struck me was it looked like he had no strength in his legs, just really wobbly, once he was off balance he had trouble even staying on his feet.

I was embarrassed. Dude has a ways to go, he's not even remotely ready.

Sounds like he was dehydrated, this would not be a surprise to me based on his conditioning and the heat and humidity.

This reminds me of the Rob Simms talk. That's a guy we should have kept.

A healthy carp is an above average LG in this league, it's just a shame that he hasn't been healthy on a consistent basis.

As bad as Carp is, he's still way better than Sweezy. Sweezy is the real weak link of the line. Carp will get better once he gets into game shape.

This. :13: Our fans seem all too swift to condemn players much too quickly. I'n not on any bandwagon here, but my jury is still out on Carp. One performance against one of the best DL's in the league is not enough to judge for me.

Time and time again the Defensive player went past Carp so fast that it appeared that Carp was standing still! Pete and Cable will see that in the film this week and do their utmost to get him to react faster at the snap.
