Hard to get good when you constantly miss practice and games with injuries.

Carp will get better when he can stay on the field every week.

Yeah but he'll start staying on the field when he starts pushing away from the table, so uh, not holding my breath.

That draft was a train wreck. Since they were both OL my story is that cable pushed for those guys. Just hard to imagine JS whiffing that bad on....anything.

Exactly. I thought this post might be about another Carp injury. At least that's not the case.

Carp being out and then having to play in that heat and humidity was the worse situation for him, I bet he lost 10 pounds today aside from being gassed.

Whether by FA, the draft, trade, whatever...this glaring weakness has to be corrected like ASAP.

The NFL, nor the Huskies, have the luxury of 5* O-linemen lining up at the door. Pete and Sark will have to put in work to score and develop their respective lines. Giving Pete and Sark a bit of a break because of their extended responsibilities, I have to wonder if Cable is much better than Cozzetto? Or do they both suck?

Surely someone will be quick to remind me of the 1600 yds ML ran for last year...and I will counter that with ML's YAC. These O-line problems are not new, just un-addressed (IMO).

Gee when we came in we had more time to pass and we started to move the ball. I saw him miss 2 blocks. The first was a stunt he missed it the second he thought Unger was going to take the guy. Yes I know he is fat. Give him a couple weeks and then watch him again. He will never be a lean guy, he is just not the type. Give this O line some credit for getting it together in the 2nd half

But it makes you look smart if you can whine about the OL...and Carp's a real safe and easy target.

I'm not sure people are whining about the OL to look smart, I think they might be whining about the OL because RW has been running for his life since he's been here? It's especially glaring when you look at a team with a good OL like the Niners and Kap doesn't have to hardly worry about being touched.

Every guy on the line was, at times, very bad today. To single out Carpenter? It's obvious you just don't like the guy. Probably the same people who ragged on Max Unger his first few years too.

I'm giving Carp the benefit of the doubt that he just needs time to work back into shape. He was decent last year.

I always like your posts, Pehawk (seriously), but uncertain if stating the obvious falls under the headings of smart and/or whining. Carp is a target because he's bad and he's here. His GF Moffitt is no longer with us and we can't blame Sweezy for being Sweezy. I am seeing a trend here and want to believe Cable's seat is (at least) warm.

Seriously?? Do you pay attention to the things you say?

Moffitt, Carpenter, KJ Wright, Richard Sherman, Byron Maxwell, Malcom Smith.

Two full time starters and 5 total starters at various times. Most teams would pay handsomely to have those kind of results. Wow.

You're entirely correct, smackdown accepted.

The high rounds of that draft (where I suspect Cable's fingerprints) were a train wreck. The later rounds were out of this world.

My point is; the line as a whole played bad. And yeah, Wilson had some real odd and uncharacteristic mental mistakes which didn't help things either.

Plus, like last year after week one, I'll remind you that the opponent is a GOOD defensive line.

Last year it took people a few weeks before they realized "Cardinals just have a good defensive line...the Hawks offensive line had a challenge". Same thing this week. In a few weeks we'll look back and say "Panthers just have a good defensive line...the Hawks offensive line had a challenge".

Carp will ALWAYS be the whipping boy here, especially for rubes like me, who don't know enough about the line to evaluate specific players. "Carp sucks" is a very safe thing to say. It just is.

Carpenter has, at times, been a good starter. He can be called out for being out of shape, and rightly so. But he's still talented and if healthy, will show himself to be pretty good.

And, people call out Carpenter because he played RT his rookie year, a position the Seahawks never drafted him for. That makes me look smart, really. I'm one of the "dumber" posters on here, and even I know OL is about continuity. How long has Carp been healthy again?

XOXO

He was gassed out there, he hasn't played much and the heat got to him. I'm disappointed he wasn't in better shape going in, but he's been banged up. We knew going in that Carolina had multiple studs on the interior, that was a mismatch going in, and it played out as such. It happens, the line as a whole will play better. One game isn't a damnation of a player, a unit, or a team, I thought we learned that last year.
