I reviewed commentary and writing from the Steelers forums and fan‐news sources and picked up on recurring themes of what fans view as Pittsburgh’s main weaknesses. These are the consensus areas people most often criticize, from the most active threads/subforums in TheSteelersFans, SteelerNationForum, and 247Sports boards. (There are obviously overlapping concerns, and some that vary in intensity, but several stand out.)

Top Weaknesses Fans Point Out

  1. Offensive Line / Pass Protection
Probably the most consistent complaint. Fans frequently point out that the O‑line has trouble keeping the quarterback clean (too many pressures, sacks allowed), poor run‑blocking, and in general failing to give enough time for plays to develop.
    • For example, James Daniels has publicly said the O‑line has “bad technique.” SteelerNation.com
    • Russell Wilson and Justin Fields have both been under pressure early, with criticism of RT/LT performances (Broderick Jones in particular) and general instability up front. SteelerNation.com+3SteelerNation.com+3SteelerNation.com+3
    • On the fan boards, people talk about “young guys on the line not holding blocks,” “low IQ” or poor execution, missed assignments, etc. Reddit+2Reddit+2
  2. Offensive Scheme / Playcalling Predictability
Another common complaint is that the offense tends to be predictable, especially in the red zone or in crucial moments. Fans believe that the coaching staff (OC and sometimes HC) does not utilize the full range of talent and that personnel usage is suboptimal.
    • Criticisms over how tight ends or other weapons (e.g. Mike Williams, Pat Freiermuth) are underused. SteelerNation.com
    • Fans often say the Steelers lean too much on “safe” plays (runs, short passes, multiple tight ends for blocking) when more aggressive or varied playcalling would help. SteelerNation.com+1
    • There is growing discontent over offensive identity: balancing run vs pass, when to take risks, etc. Behind the Steel Curtain+2SteelerNation.com+2
  3. Red Zone / Finishing Drives
Many fans note the Steelers struggle in the red zone — they can move the ball reasonably well at times, but converting that into touchdowns is inconsistent. Settling for field goals, failing to punch it in, etc., especially near the goal line, is seen as a recurring issue.
    • From reporting: “worst red zone offenses in the NFL this season” has been used in describing their performance under certain offensive coordinators. SteelerNation.com
    • Fans express frustration that drives stall and don’t result in touchdowns. SteelerNation.com
  4. Quarterback Pressure / QB being Rushed / Lack of Protection
This ties back into the offensive line issues, but it’s often mentioned separately: fans feel that the QB is under duress too often (leading to poor throw decisions, sacks, scrambles) because he can’t rely on adequate protection.
    • Several games are discussed where Wilson was hurried, had “happy feet,” etc. SteelerNation.com+2SteelerNation.com+2
    • The pass protection failures are sometimes blamed for forcing simpler or quicker passes, which limits the offense’s ability to stretch the field. SteelerNation.com
  5. Coaching / Leadership Decisions
Fans are not just blaming players — there's a lot of criticism of coaching decisions: decisions on personnel, play calling, perhaps lack of adjustments, sticking by underperforming players, and sometimes frustration with how strategy is handled in games.
    • The offensive coordinator is mentioned often: whether he uses the talent well, whether his schemes are too predictable. SteelerNation.com+1
    • There is frustration with the head coach also, or that he doesn’t pull the plug or make needed changes. Behind the Steel Curtain+1
  6. Inconsistency / Lack of Explosiveness
Fans note the team can look good in stretches but fails to sustain momentum. The offense sometimes lacks big‑plays; when things are going well they stall, or when under pressure they implode.
    • Articles and commenters alike talk about having difficulty finishing drives, or making adjustments when defenses key in. SteelerNation.com
    • Also, the running game is criticized for not being consistent — either strong or weak depending on opponent, not reliable. Steelers Depot+1
  7. Defensive Issues (somewhat less frequently, but present)
While most of the heat goes to offense and the offensive line, there are also criticisms of breakdowns on defense: secondary leaks, inability to get stops at key moments.
    • Fans mention “leaky defense” threads, usually meaning giving up chunk plays or failing in clutch defensive moments. (Less specific, more general frustration.) thesteelersfans.com

Caveats / Less‑Consistent or Disputed Points

  • Some fans defend the offensive line: arguing it has been better in certain metrics or that it’s not solely to blame. Reddit
  • The severity of issues is debated: whether some problems are due to lack of talent, coaching, or simply not enough time/chemistry.
  • Injury and depth are part of the conversation: players being hurt, backups underperforming, etc.

Tomlin needs to buy our great John Schneider a few stiff drinks, then pick his brain on how to improve OL by trading away starting QB, #1, and #3 WRs. If John refuses to share, ole toffee could be persuaded and happily be a traitor for cocktails

OMG, they are QB by geNO?

See above, the solution is to trade away the starting QB and WRs.

Good thing we have brains.

It’s a glorified web crawler that infers what you want based on language, it saved me from googling. There’s no more enemy fan forums.

I'm going to whip out a quote from the character of Dr. Sarah Harding in Michael Crichton's excellent sequel to Jurassic Park: The Lost World. (The novel, obviously.)

"All your life people will tell you things. And most of the time, probably ninety-five percent of the time, what they'll tell you will be wrong."

Now for a quote from the same novel, from Ian Malcolm's character, this time: "Human beings never think for themselves, they find it too uncomfortable. For the most part, members of our species simply repeat what they are told - and become upset if they are exposed to any different view."

I'll trust random AI more than most humans.

I could have sworn the complaints in the OP were made by Seahawk fans about the Seahawks. In fact they look like copies from posts on this very board!
I was waiting for someone to say it lol

Neither Russell Wilson nor Justin Fields are on the Steelers anymore.

Ron Burgundy from SteelerNation.com checking in.
Only based on one game so far but our take is that The League's Highest Paid Defense (/sarcasm) barely beat the Jets, allowed 30 points, and we needed a 60 yard FG to win.
On the other hand, Aaron Rodgers, or A-Aron as we call him from the Key & Peele skit, and the offense looked better than expected.
On the other other hand, the Steelers rarely lose at home.
I'll pick a Steelers win but a close one, like 23-20.

Yes, but it was made by .NET expert on last year's team with three dead-weights. We have moved on to better everything.
