Jalen Carter wanted in connection with car crash that killed teammate

There were three vehicles racing that night. Georgia's No.2 leading tackler also faces the same charges. Ultimately, the .197 BAC likely had more to do with the crash than Carter did. Also, police at the scene noted no alcohol involvement on Carter's part when he returned to the scene. I just don't see any more serious charges coming down the pipe. Obviously, the behavior raises concerns. But, unless there is some sort of evidence that Carter had a more active role in the crash, I think someone will take him in the first round. Should the Seahawks be that someone? I have no idea.
I 100% don't agree with your argument. Yes, there were two or three cars of Georgia players racing. One car had a horrible crash. Carter chose to flee the scene instead of saving the lives of his teammates or coaches. That is an unacceptable response in the face of danger to you or family/friends. Dude just cares about himself, everyone else in his life can die in a car crash that he was a part of.

Yet, an hour and a half later and he's not drunk at all? Interesting. Too drunk to make a good decision about racing. Scared enough to flee the scene. But, 90 minutes later he isn't drunk at all. Making excuses is like lying in that you have to keep adding excuses to keep up with the truth.
There is actually some pretty good scientific research showing that even moderate levels of alcohol consumption can have measurable effects on decision making and moral judgment. We really don’t know how much alcohol Carter still had in his system. Appearances notwithstanding, I believe the police should have tested him and probably would have if he weren’t a local hero.

Ruggs is a good example of my point. He is charged with multiple felonies but not murder. Bad decisions, not bad intentions.
He a great guy, just unlucky that lady's car got in his way. Could've happened to any of us when we drive home over 100 MPH wasted.

Exactly this and I was waiting for someone to bring this up. Who in their right mind would believe the cops in this matter? It's not uncommon for cops to blow for even casual acquaintances in drunk driving situations. Carter just helped UGA win a second straight natty and few things are bigger than that in Georgia (etc). Car racing is also huge down there and while this is a terrible tragedy, many people engage in illegal road racing (the 1/4 mile in particular). With Carter *slated to be an NFL superstar, I'm sure the cops believe there's more to gain from him out of jail than in. This just my opinion, of course, and I am far more sad for those injured and dead than I am worried about where Jalen Carter goes in this draft. But....like others here I felt he played a bit lazy at times. I didn't like him top 5 but what if he falls to 20? I don't believe he will but ...what if?

I am not condoning what he did. The fact that he left the scene is extremely disturbing. I'm just saying that since he wasn't charged with leaving the scene, he must not have been directly involved with the accident. Therefore, I don't see any further criminal charges coming. I find it hard to believe that the police at the scene would let him skate on a DUI or any other immediate charges in a case that they knew would be high profile.

I don’t know. He might be a great guy when he is not drunk. Alcohol affects one’s decision making ability, personality, and more. Drunk drivers make bad decisions, but they are not all bad people. I have known a few. One is an ex-military pilot and a nice guy when not intoxicated. Alcoholics have a disease that limits their ability to control behavior.

From the football side of the story, I will be very interested to see whether the Bears and Seahawks GMs/coaches attend and meet with Carter on his pro day March 15.

Calling the woman who was driving and killed her passenger a victim is disgusting.

Acting as though Carter was responsible for the decision of two adults to race as though he forced them is laughable.

Street racing happens constantly on the freeways I drive home on (at least once a week) and I can tell you that if the person is ahead of the other person at those speeds and the person behind them crashes, the person in the lead would not know it immediately. "Oh, he should have stopped to help them." At those speeds he would have already been at least a mile ahead of where they were when their vehicle came to a stop.

His actions were irresponsible and stupid, but let's not act like he held a gun to these adults heads and said race me or suffer the consequences.
