It seems like every year a story comes out about a top tier prospect, almost like clockwork. And the timing couldn't be worse.
At the mimimum, it will makes teams more cautious. He needs to get this crap taken care of, and like yesterday.

Proceeded to lie about it

Sorry for the long title, Aros. Doozy of a story.

It's unforgivable, given the result.

But its also sad and another unfortunate example of how a lapse in judgement during one's youth can derail a life / lives. Feel bad for everyone affected as this is bigger than football and the draft.

Just unfortunate.

For those of you who rake the front office over the coals for selecting Malik McDowell, would you actually overlook this and draft Carter? Even at 20, 15 spots ahead of McDowell?

Gets a little bit harder without the 20/20 hindsight, doesn't it?

Well, this is a hell of a lot worse than being an idiot on an ATV, which was AFTER he was drafted. Will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

After Malik McDowell and how people here generally feel the front office should've seen his accident coming, I can't imagine anyone here would want to select Jalen Carter now given the same pattern of extremely excessive risk-taking behaviors.

He's probably off Seattles board entirely.

I never really wanted him over Wilson to begin with but this solidified my opinion. Sure is unfortunate for everyone involved

This likely drops him out of the top 10, if not further. I wasn't keen on taking him at #5, but the problem is now that a team between 1 and 4 that was planning on drafting him will be taking someone else, perhaps a player we were targeting at #5.

it only take one team that wants to trade up to 5 and will ignore this. Raiders or Cowboys seem to sweep things under the rug on a regular basis.

I think I saw that the charges were misdemeanors. With a $1000-2000 fine and community service the most likely penalty.

With this coming out during the combine, I think that gives teams plenty of time to dig into the charges and get comfortable with the character.

Maybe it breaks a tie between Anderson and him. But, short of someone absolutely destroying the combine, I think Carter is too talented to slip much from this.

I was happy with the McDowell pick, and wouldn't take Carter earlier than the 3rd round now, given he isn't charged with vehicular manslaughter at this point

-- As to Carter the defensive tackle, I do believe this will mean he will be available at #5. It will be up to the Seahawks what to do about that. The only caveat to that is I recall back in 1995, some marijuana smoking rumors came out about Warren Sapp (pretty laughable now), and Dennis Green admitted it took him off of the Vikings draft board. They took Derrick Alexander, a DE from FSU. One pick later, the Bucs took Sapp. Green considered it his biggest draft day mistake ever. Cautionary tale for sure, but in what sense. Moral high ground or your job to win football games.

-- Now, Jalen the college kid. I could feel bad for him, but would need some clarity. You know they were street racing, when the other car crashed, he panicked. Probably had a few to drink beforehand, and was looking at a DUI months before he could become a millionaire. Being inebriated he may have thought it was just a crash and thought everyone would have been okay (remember, he was traveling right beside them at high speed, so may not have been aware of the severity of the crash. But simply put, if he witnessed his friends and teammates involved in a serious car accident, but drove off and left them just to protect his own ass, then he can rot in hell. And hopefully NOT on the Seahawks roster. Also, wasn't sure if he eventually came clean and admitted to the police that he had been beside the other car, or if they figured it out, and THEN he admitted. Big difference. Sad, sad story all around.

If what the investigation shows is true, he could face jail time. I don't see how he's on anyone's draft board. If it's just reckless driving, by Georgia law, it's a misdemeanor, points and fine. But if it's found that his actions in some part caused the crash, that's a felony. Granted, I don't know the details of the case. Just googled Georgia law.

He's also on the hook for leaving the scene of an accident and obstructing an investigation by giving false and misleading information to the police. I'm not sure if those are felonies or not, and it depends on how far the prosecutors want to go on this case. Being that it involved a crash that resulted in two deaths, they're probably going to go after it pretty hard. There's bound to be a lot of attention on this case, at least locally, so I can't see them giving him a break for fear of charges of favoritism.

These are misdemeanor charges likely to result in a fine and some community service at most. With 2 months for the news cycle to churn, I doubt this does anything more than knock him from the first non-QB off the board, to the second.

Edit: Given the situation as it is today. If more is found, then he could plummet.
