Is this the best secondary in nfl history?

It's quite interesting to see how much the game has changed. This is why arguing stats (particularly between eras greater than a couple of years apart) is pretty dumb:

2013 Hawks - 174 YPG allowed; ranked #1
1978 Hawks - 187 YPG allowed; ranked #27 (out of 28 teams; Bills had the best-ever record this year with 122 YPG but less than 20 ATT against)

13 YPG is the difference between first in 2013 and virtually dead last in 1978. Pass-happy, points-scoring offenses much? Running games and defenses have totally taken a back seat and it's not even funny.

Best year Deion ever had statistically was in 1991 with the Falcons. He had 6 INTs, 1 sack, 49 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and an unknown # of passes defensed (not tracked back then). His second best year was 1993 when he had 7 INTs, 0 sacks, 34 tackles, and 1 forced fumble.

In 2012, Sherman's only full season to date, he had 8 INTs, 1 sack, 3 forced fumbles, 53 tackles, and 24 passes defensed. Sherman is a statistically better CB than Sanders in every possible way.

In 2012 he had 8 INT's and 76 tackles. Earl had 3 INT's and 66 tackles.

Stats don't tell the whole story man. Saying Richard Sherman is BETTER than Deion Sanders is hysterically bad.

This is reading comp 101, he said STATISTICALLY Sherman is better then Sanders.... You see the word STATISTICALLY? You know what that means? It means if only based on numbers. Why are you trying to argue a point ( Saying Richard Sherman is BETTER than Deion Sanders is hysterically bad ) the poster you are replying to never mentioned. He even provided facts to support his claim and you just come in fecal flop all over it without any reason because you misread it and then provide nothing to back up your "Sarcastic response".

Sherman is a complete Corner who supports the run. Sanders looked to avoid contact. Sanders had great speed and was a return guy, he got a lot of his notoriety from that. If you wanted to win you ran at Sanders.

I can't think of any secondary better then ours in recent memory. Back in the 80's the 49ers secondary was always good.

Our backup CB's are making plays game in an game out.

All 3 remaining starters in the Legion of Boom have been elected to the Pro Bowl as well as all 3 being All-Pro. I'm not sure that's ever happened. To me, it's pretty clear that our secondary is the best in the history of the NFL, and I've been calling it for a while.

Not only that, but Maxwell has the best defensive passer rating in the NFL, #1 to Sherman's #2. If you projected Maxwell's INTs, he'd have 13 on the year, one off the NFL record, I think. Seattle could have 4 totally legit All-Pro defensive backs next year.

Heck, Walter Thurmond is 13th in defensive passer rating!

A few weeks ago, the New York Times did an analysis that showed Seattle had the 4th best era-adjusted (standard deviations above average on ANY/A) pass defense ever[1]. If no one misses games next year, they could be #1 easy.

In four years in the NFL, ET has made First Team All Pro three times. In three years (with only two as full time starter) Sherm has made First Team All Pro two times. Simply dominant.

I was thinking that too in 84 we also had 38 Int. to go along with those sacks and 63 takeaways plus this is 2nd most in NFL History, 61 Chargers had 66 takeaways. And that record still stands, Easley 10 Ints, Brown had 8 and the both had 2 pick 6s. But I still think we have the best secondary in the League, and sign em and lets see in 10years were these guys rate. lovin the BOOM!!!
