If we traded DK, who should take over his snaps?

Calvin had Matthew Stanford throwing to him and what good did it do the lions…
It did them a ton of good, those two were absolutely ridiculous together. The Lions problem was the rest of the team , front office, etc. It wasn't the offense.

Not too many superstar receivers on this list of Super Bowl winners and this list doesn’t have last years chiefs. I ain’t saying trade dk no not ever, just that massive receiving yards is not the greatest indicator of overall success

We have two wide receivers with great speed and hands. Not many receivers can make one handed blocks that I’ve ever seen
Which two (other than DK) have speed to threaten over the top consistently? Im not asking who can do it occassionally (Tyler) but who can add that threat consistently on gameday?

We have a GREAT receiving core. But as Brock Huard has said. Its a complimentary one, with each guy having a soecific skillset and playing his own dynamic role. The positions opposite DK are a bit more interchangeable, as Tyler, JSN and Bobo can situationally assume the other's part. But Dk? The dude is a one off. Defenses HAVE to roll a Safety to his side to cover the deep threat by the sheer fact that DK can just run by most anyone. Tyler and JSN require a great getoff to play the deep half and even then, against a fast corner, have to depend on a well timed ball to really threaten the deep routes.

I LOVE our Wrs. And... none of them can play the roll DK does in effecting how a defense plays us.

You need to think long-term other than just right now with this suggestion. If you get rid of DK, and as we’ve stated Tyler Lockett is gone after this year as well, all you really have is Ngigba. You think this board is complaining now? You ain’t seen nothing yet if that happened.

Exactly.

Covering his absence in a game is difficult, but doable. Assuming we can replace him from within with the guys we have is silly.

If you move DK its only because you are sure you cant make paying him work. But then you are stuck with the issue of what surefire free-agent wr or high round draft pick are you going to target to do what he does in this offense?

Folks are getting hung up on his drops and mental lapses - which i 100% get. But you also have to account for how much freedom he gives the rest of the group by virtue of the fact that the defense ALWAYS has to account for him. The 49ers are the only team in the league who i have seen consistently try to play straight man against him on an island and they still throw help to his side a good bit.

Take DK away or someone who can replicate the threat he poses and the entire wr corp's job gets a lot harder.

Just vecause they didn't have a 1000yds that year, doesn't mean they're not capable recievers. One of those sub 1000yd guys is Tyreek Hill, lol. Not a great list to use whilist getting a point across. I'd hazard a guess most of those sub-K guys could easily achieve 1000+ yards.

That's what I see looking at those numbers.

ETA* I'd be more interested in who was on the OL and at HB for those seasons with WRs that had less than 1K.

Had we lost last weekend and the Niners had won, then maybe it might have made a difference. But I don't think it wise to trade a Pro Bowl player for what would likely be draft picks when we're leading our division, essentially throwing in the towel on the season.

But by the same token, I do not like dedicating such a large percentage of our salary cap to a wide receiver. IMO good ones are a dime a dozen and can be had for much less money than what Metcalf is likely to demand in the offseason. If we're not willing to pay Metcalf a market setting contract next season, then the logical option is to trade him and get what we can for him before he walks.

There's only a few, but you're not going to get those trades. Which is why I wouldn't trade him unless there was a reason we had to.
I was hoping for a few WR player names, but it's tough. Yup, we're not going to get Justin Jefferson or Jamar Chase. Could Tee Higgins do any of what DK does? Don't know. Yes, DK stretches the field in the way few others do.

I dont see evidence thatbyou dont need great wr's in that list. I see more validation that you need balance and cant be a one man show.

Hill, Edelman and Boldin account for more than half of the sub 1000 yard years, and each is a wr worthy of double teams and requires scheming for... like DK.

As much as i love our WRs, absent DK, i dont think most teams look at a lineup of a past his prime Tyler, JSN and Bobo and are overly concerned about drawing up special coverage schemes. They are all great, but as a group do too much of the same thing.

If i am Buffalo this week and play us without DK, im locking up man coverage more often than not, letting the CBs turn their backs to the line and daring Geno to either throw the ball into a tight window, or make him beat us with his legs. Our wrs are not going to get separation for long coming off the line and will be hard pressed to beat guys with speed deep...

Unless this is the week we discover a new weapon...

It could be Dareke Young time. I've heard about how physically gifted he is since he's been here. He has just been dinged up.

He ran a 4.4 40 yard dash, Dk ran a 4.33. .07 seconds is the swing of an arm at the line.

He was significantly quicker than DK in the cone drill 6.88 v 7.38 and 20 yd shuttle 4.19 v 4.5. Thats big

DK put up 24 reps at 225lbs, Dareke put up 22. Thats a wash.

Folks, on paper, Dareke is every bit a match for DK athletically. He may not be the imposing physical freak but he is quicker, almost as fast, and nearly as strong at the bench.

His coach seems to be impressed:

I think its been hard for him to see the field this year because to put him on, you are pulling DK, Tyler or JSN. And their proven experience in the offense likely trumps the potential he might bring.
I havent seen his snap counts and who he has subbed for but the dude only has 1 target this year and i think zero catches. If he's going to be a contributor on the offense moving forward, this is the week to show it if DK cant go.

We're about to find out what life without DK would be like as I doubt that he will be playing vs Buffalo. I don't think it will be a good thing.

Hill played just 12 games that season too.

The question of this thread is if DK is traded, who takes his snaps. After reading through this thread, and also thinking about it, it doesn’t matter who would take his snaps. A move on from DK would weaken the WR corps. And also weaken the team in general.

It looks like the market for trading WRs has been set. They would probably be looking at a 3rd or 4th round pick in return. Yay. A draft pick. A pick that might be used on a WR. Or a pick that could be used on any other position on the team.

Is a potential 3rd or 4th round pick going to make the team better? That’s a complete unknown. A 3rd or 4th round guy could eventually develop into an all pro type guy and make for a great trivia question down the road. More likely than not, that 3rd or 4th round pick might get you a solid player at a position for a few years. Or, they could pick a guy who gets injured, barely makes the team or is a jag.

If the possibility of trading DK is because of a huge salary cap hit, then I get that. But, if that truly is the case then it makes the most sense to let him walk at the end of his contract to another team. If another team were to sign him, it’s very likely that they would get a compensation pick in return. Probably somewhere in the 3rd to 4th round range. By doing this you get more years out of DK. You can also set the team up for success by finding his replacement before he leaves. All by getting roughly the same compensation in return.

Love ya Toffee. Nothing against you…love your posts.

But this is one topic I wish would die.

DK has his faults…but, there’s no one on this team that could replace him.

I too like Bobo. But, he’s not DK. Love JSN and still believe he has the ability to have some 1200+ yard seasons. But he’s not a #1. Tyler has ALWAYS been solid…but he’s getting up there. Most underrated WR ever imo…

Anyways, I don’t want this team searching for the next #1 when we already have him.

DK is often misinterpreted. He wants to win. He’s a leader. I’ll take the bad with the good.

Truly hope he retires as a Seahawk.

You need 2, possibly 3, "really good" wide receivers. (Eg, Baldwin + Kearse, or DK + Lockett.)

I'm watching Jets vs Pats. Patriots have no one that can catch a ball, the Jets have one.

Two teams going nowhere.

We're seeing the offense without DK....in the first half so far it's not looking very good. Only Ken Walker has done anything. 2 times in the red zone and coming away with only 3 points.

Yeah, DK in there would have totally stopped the snap over the head, Geno tripping over the C foot. Derp.

No he wouldn't have but at least he makes opposing defenses account for him. No other player other than Walker does on the Seahawk offense. That's how valuable DK is to this team. Having DK out there helps Lockett, JSN, and others in the passing attack.

Good luck replacing DK with anyone on this team, that's an instant downgrade. Seattle had been looking for that specific players for YEARS. No sense in jettisoning him atm.
Golden Tate
Doug Baldwin

And Seattle still won SB. Sure you can add Rice. But he hardly did anything
