When Darnold was signed here, the idea was that he would not f*ck things up while the Hawks lean on their Defense and RUNNING attack.

Defense was awesome.

And K9/Charbs combined for over 100 yards and a TD.

Darnold still hasn't thrown a pick since the Rams game but the fumbles continue to plague him.

All that said, however, this Defense is good enough to help account for his mishaps provided they aren't too many.

He does need to be better (and Kubiak needs to USE HIS F*CKING BRAIN) but I guess I underestimated Flores D affecting him like it did (or maybe I shouldn't have since Brian Flores knows Darnold all too well).

All in all, it was a win that was VINTAGE Seahawks Football : DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE (with a sprinkling of a Running game).

9-3 b*tches!!

GO HAWKS!!

I think this is exactly the game MM wanted. We tried to throw early and it didn't work. The short quick passing game is not Sam's strength. Kubiak IMO is calling the game Sam excels at. Today, it didn't work. And when it was obvious Minny was determined to take away what we do best through the air, not matter what, MM took it personally and ran it down their throats.

This was the game plan we SHOULD have had against the Rams. We should never have kept throwing against a defense who, like Minnesota, is capable of taking away our passing strength.

This was a tone setting win, and I am pretty sure MM is happy with it.

Sure they started a rookie, but we held captain MVP in Stafford to season lows as well. We're it not for 2 gimme scores, the Rams QB wouldn't have looked much better than Minny's today.

This is a statement win. Every team in the league knows now that even if you take away JSN, we will still beat the ever loving crap out of you on the ground and with our defense.

No 1 seed is in play and I don't see a game we should t win between now and the end of the season.
Keasley, I want to see us run the ball down the Rams throats in Week 16, too.

But I also want to see dump-offs by Sam to K9/Charbs and the Tight-ends to get YAC.

Ball-Control should be the name of the game going forward and as we head deeper into December and January.

That UDFA rookie playing his first NFL game was only marginally worse than Darnold. We're going to have issues late in the year.
Are we, though?

I don't think we're facing Brian Flores again or am I missing something?

The offense needs to work on:

1) blitz pick up
2) blitz beaters
3) end of half clock management
4) pass pro in general

However, the good thing is that they were able to adjust and lean on the run game (plus an incredible defense) to win this game.

What the offense won't have to worry about going forward :

1.) facing Brian Flores who knows our QB inside and out

2.) See #1.

I look for a bounceback performance by Darnold next week in Craplanta.

It's a copy cat league. We have a clear liability with interior pass protection that DCs will try to exploit. Free rushers almost every other play in the first half. And defenses are actively scheming to bat down the quick passes.

They have a lot to fix before the Rams game. Eagles have a good D-Line too. And I don't really want to play GB at Lambeau in January if Hawks can't secure that #1 seed.

I won't be worried unless Craplanta does the same to Darnold and the offense next week which I don't foresee happening. 🥱

It's one thing to see what other teams are doing. It's another to have the personal to copy it
200

And I don't think Craplanta has it.

Flores did because he knew Darnold inside-and-out.

Shula did because he has the personnel to confuse him (and it's up to Kubiak to find a gameplan to combat that; the Panthers win against the Rams will help a ton)

I dont disagree but i will add... our rightside oline is a huge weakness. They kept attacking from that side and had success when Charbs wasn't in blocking on that side. If they can dial up some screens and quick hitting plays while somehow fixing the right side of the Oline we're good. Otherwise nail biters ahead.
I think the problem today was confusion on the OL blocking assignments when the defense lines up 7 guys on the line and drop 2-3 into coverage.

I was going to post something eerily similar, but this summed it up perfectly!

If Darnold is their QB, they are going to have to use the whole draft on OL

Dude looks worse than Geno with any kind of pressure and that’s not easy
Geno was actually one of the better QBs against pressure when he was here. He excelled in the short, quick passing game and got the ball out quickly. He had to. When he was here, we had a turnstile of an o line that got him sacked 11 times in 2 games. San was sacked 11 times all season until just this week.

What Geno could do that Sam to date has not is get the ball out quickly in a true read and react type game. kubiak has given him beaters but they aren't usually WR hitters. Kubiak has preferred to let Sam look for his longer plays and then gives him an out to a RB or TE if it's not there.

We did have a handful of shorter routes (the one slant to Shaheed comes to mind) but those are few and far between. Kubiak / Sam seem to prefer to rely on wr screens rather than short slants and outs. This could be MM mandating a safer approach, given how often Sam has passes deflected (not just talking about this game) and has had passes on outs jumped.

It’s really becoming obvious that the way this Hawks team is going to win in the postseason is in a 17-14 type game and we just have to pray Sam doesn’t turn it over multiple times. The defense is legit.

How many times have we seen the Hawks utterly blow a game against a bad team or team with a bad quarterback?

Colt McCoy, anyone? Mike Glennon had a 21-0 lead on the LoB.

The LoB Hawks couldn't beat an Austin Davis-led Rams team! The LoB Hawks lost to Alex Smith's mighty 108 pass yards. In '15, they lost to Case Keenum's 103 pass yards.

If you didn't like this game, I'm sorry. I think you're severely lacking perspective.

Kubiak showed today he can swallow his ego, roll up into the tortoise shell, and call a game with the only intent being to win it.

I fuggin' love it.

Yeah, Stafford didn't have a great game today either. He has proven he can win on the big stage though. We're just kinda hoping on Darnold.
“Hoping”?

Really?

Would you be willing to start a new/specific tread to expand on your premise?

Not here as it would completely derail this thread but I think a few would be curious, it might spark a great conversation.
