I still have dread thinking of him dinking and dunking on us during an extremely hot game in San Diego. He just hit every damn pass i swear and it was a nightmare.
That sucked, but worse was the blueprint that Pagano put out on defeating our Wilson centered offense. Not many teams picked up on it that year, but Belichick noticed, and used it against us in XLIX.

For the Dolts it makes way more strategic sense to use Rivers in the last 3 games of the year to try and be in the playoffs, rather than rushing him out against our monster D with a couple days of conditioning/practice only to get him killed and then still only have those other 2 loser QBs to try and get there. Might as well have not signed him at all, at that point.

The next 4 games are against the Hawks, Niners, Jags, and Texans. Niners are probably the easiest defense out of that group, sure, but it doesn't make any more sense running Rivers out against the other three than it does us. Jags defense is good, obviously the Texans defense is great, and they are both in their division. None of those games are gimmes that Rivers is going to tip the odds in the Colts favor.

They need to try and steal a win or two somewhere in that string of games. If they are going to use him, it makes the most sense to get him out there as quickly as possible and hope he has enough juice to help them sneak into the playoffs, because losing even one more game will make it extremely unlikely they make it in.

They will not play him against us.

I refuse to believe that until I actually see/hear the announcement that he will.

Until then, I'm getting ready for a nice STRESS-FREE game against Riley Leonard where we dominate and blow them out in the 2nd quarter and have just about the entire 2nd half to rest our players for Thursdays matchup against the Rams.

Rivers makes this game far from a gimme. He and Steichen go all the way back to their days with the Chargers. Rivers wont need to be too mobile if their line holds up the way it has so far this year having only allowed 24 sacks. He will likely just have to stand in the pocket and when he throws, make simple, clear reads. They can easily scheme a gameplan for him to be ok despite his time away. In his last season, Rivers completed 67% of his attempts for a better than 2-1 TD to INT ratio, so its not like he was playing poorly when he chose to walk away.

But, River's hasnt seen the kind of looks MM will throw at him. That will be the key. If we can disrupt the short quick gimme balls and make him push the ball up-field where things get trickier, it will put him in conflict for sure. I have no doubt his arm is still solid and that his football IQ is there. But he hasnt been repping at the speed or complexity at which our guys will be playing him on Sunday.

Offense just needs to show up for 4 qtrs.

It took a month for Shaheed and Darnold to start gelling. I’ll take Rivers with 3 days of practice with all of his wr’s and te’s coming out of a 5 year retirement all day. There’s a reason the line went from -3.5 last week to -13.5 now.

Have you not seen our defense the last couple of games? The only way we can lose another game is if we beat ourselves. Rivers would be merely a speed bump.
The Rams will be the only true test for the rest of the season.

There should be no more hand-wringing. We are Legit!!

They are only a game behind in their division and just gave up their 2 first round picks to go all in. I think they roll the dice as they are at a desperation phase. Playing the other guys is likely a loss any way. If he does play though its going to be a heavy dose of Jonathan Taylor and dinking and dunking/check downs to stop him taking any hits. That should still play to our strengths with our defensive tackles. Probably like last weeks game where they tried to take our pass rushers out of the equation and put the emphasis on our secondary.

The Colts are desperate, hence the move. They did not sign him to hold a clipboard. If he can play this week and he has a lot of knowledge and experience with the system and players then he will play. He signed yesterday so it may take a few days but if they think he is ready to go this week he will.

Or he could just throw screen passes all day long, whenever they want to give Taylor a break. Won't take any time to get in sync with his receivers, and usually gashes our defense.

This defense is going to actually use Rivers' head as a speed bump if he starts for sure. :devilish:

However, all that said, I would prefer not seeing him start if there is even a .000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance he decides to morph into Prime Rivers and somehow beats us.

Let the Whiners deal with that possibility next week.
