Well, Coach Mike was in the AFC Championship game last year. The patience paid off, and we still got him. Just because a team is in the playoffs, doesn't mean someone wouldn't want to come here. There are some average teams in the playoffs this year. Broncos, Texans, Rams, Bucs and Chargers are all pretty mid.
He came here to get a promotion to head coach. No OC that is already on a playoff team is going to want to come here and be the latest guy on the Hawks OC turnstile. You will have to get a position coach that has never been and OC or a failed HC that was a good OC prior.

OC to OC is most likely not gonna happen. Can it? Sure, I guess, but usually the pick will be an outstanding position coach getting an upgrade to OC.

I feel like this is the hundredth different thread asking the same question we've seen up and down the most recent 5-10 pages

That's a fair guess, but not a fact. That's all I'm saying.
Again, the Hawks are a better team or as good as some of the playoff teams. There are 4 or 5 average teams in the dance. It's not some huge reach that someone would want to come coach for an up-and-coming team. Imaging working with Sean Payton, I'm sure he's a real gem to be around.

You know what's really ******* stupid? Most of the people here defending Geno aren't high on him. We're just not so dumb as to think the alternatives people float here are better.

Yes, I'm talking about Lock.
This, you don't make a change at QB for the sake of change. You make it because you have a better alternative. I'm not seeing one yet.

I remember reading elsewhere and on here that Geno, since College, has never been the brightest when it comes to football intelligence. Like, he can play the position but he’s always relayed on his superior physical tools and arm strength.

However as those diminish (he’s turning 35), how much longer can he relay on that?
This 100% Geno doesn't have it between the ears. Ironically one of the OC candidates being thrown around, Josh Mclown, was another guy that couldn't read a playbook. Yikes, now that would be hilarious.

I personally am very happy Mike Macdonald keeps his standard among the coaching staff as he does with the players. If you're not doing your job right, gtfo. No blind loyalty, no exaggerated optimism, etc.

Hopefully this puts EVERYONE on notice on that coaching staff that they're just as expendable as players are if you don't do your damn job.

Edit: I hope the O-Line scouts are paying attention.

I can't be the only one screaming at the TV or from my seat "snap the damn ball!"

And Russ was guilty of that last second crap, not as often, but it was maddening at times.
I feel you Soul. When the Geno was first starting it was so nice to see him snap the ball at something other than the last second - and watching him take whatever the defense gave us. WITH ALACRITY.

Both those things were rare this season.

Will Geno stop changing the plays all the time? Will Geno actually snap the ball with more than 1 second on the clock and/or force timeouts to be called?
Geno goes to the line of scrimmage with multiple plays and is coached to change the play depending on what formation he sees. Your post us nothing more then Geno hating

Personally, I'm having a hard time believing this weird naiveté about how Grubb's offense worked isn't purposeful at this point because this discussion has been had so many times now.

Geno wasn't just audibling out of his OC's calls because he thought he knew better or whatever other theory it is that people have in their minds. This was literally a major part of Grubb's system. You see the times when literally half the players are looking at the sideline after already coming to the LOS? That's because Grubb would literally have guys on the sideline signaling a change based on the looks of the defense.

This wasn't Geno going against the plan of the OC, this was him implementing it. If you don't like how regularly that was done, your problem is with Grubb... who's gone now. So congrats, I guess?

Sorry but coach Grubb calls plays from the booth, up, way up. He wasn't at the sideline.

Geno may be gone too.

Nothing burger. Mac has no control over contract negotiations and whether John extends him ot not / whether Geno plays hard ball for more money. Thats all that is.

Otherwise, Geno is back.

He did, but they have assistants down at the field who relayed the call from the booth.

Geno would do a lot of the checks on his own, but most of those were predesigned checks as well. It wasn't a situation of Geno literally coming up to the line and just choosing his own random audibles. Very few QBs are ever given free reign to do that. (And when they are given even something close to that freedom, it's huge press fodder--see: Manning, Peyton).
