QBs and their cap/contracts:

Geno is one of the cheapest vets, he is in the good price/performance category, but at 35yo and seemingly hearing footsteps, he provides limited upside or hope to the fan base.

He came here to get a promotion to head coach. No OC that is already on a playoff team is going to want to come here and be the latest guy on the Hawks OC turnstile. You will have to get a position coach that has never been and OC or a failed HC that was a good OC prior.

Disagree completely. The last OCs here werent top choices. Waldron only got a shot because Russ went blaming the offense for why we werent better. Pete caved and brought in the guy he was most comfortable with.

Grubb was only here because by the time we got Mac, there werent any better choices from which to buikd his staff.

I could understand if there was some systemic issue here where the HC is overbearing or wont relinquish control, but thats not the case. The FO is great. The franchise is well run. The team is talented and has solid playmakers at all of the skill positions.

I'd wager its a top spot for any candidate, geography not withstanding.

I'm starting to think we have some differing opinions around here about this Geno fellla.

I don’t think Geno should be gone but, I do think we need to start taking shots at drafting QBs.

It’s a crapshoot but, we’ve got to start looking at mid round type guys…unless we think Howell is the next up.

I say mid round because it’s really hard to gauge Geno’s performance when we ended up 30th (or something crazy like that) offensive line wise. We need to build the trenches…

It’s no coincidence that the top 10 teams going into the playoffs all have high ranked O-lines. Last time I checked, the lowest ranked line out of that group was #11.

While I don’t think Geno is going to ‘get better’, I do think he can be a top 5 kind of guy behind a good O-line.

Next year should be a given…unless we trade him. I’d like him around on a team friendly deal but that would be a hard sell for him being on the other side of his playing days.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if John and Mike aren't nearly as high on Geno as some here are.

would expect John and Mike have very much a similar opinion to 90% of the sensible fan base. Geno's the best we got right now but we're all open to an upgrade at the position.

The nonsensical fan base views roster construction like a video game where you can always find someone better in a one sided trade or the 3rd round of the draft.

Geno is too good to easily replace with just anyone but not good enough to carry a team (unless they’re incredibly talented) to the promised land
Exactly. There are about five QBs that can be difference makers even on a team with sub par talent. All the rest need a strong supporting cast to be successful

IMHO, Geno is the best price/performance in the veteran QB market. It's hard to find someone who can deliver his level of production at his or a lower price.

Geno's downside is his age and upside in the coming years.

Oooops, I forgot, the other downside is that most experts of .net wanted him gone like 3 months ago.

No way in hell Geno is gone unless they want to downgrade to Howell.

I don't understand the logic behind getting rid of Geno at this point in time. That would be like quiting a job you don't like for a worse one with less pay with the hopes the one you want is available in 2 years
I agree in the part that he wont be gone next year
I think its more just people wanna see a better succession plan for the future. I actually didn't mind the Sam Howell trade, until he actually played.
If were keeping Geno, the teams gotta think they can actually make it the whole within a few years

Will Geno stop changing the plays all the time? Will Geno actually snap the ball with more than 1 second on the clock and/or force timeouts to be called?
That is part of the game.

Cam Newton here breaking down the protection calls and adjustments that happen in a play design before the ball is snapped. A play is only a scaffolding, each play has something called sight adjustments.

Part of the DK routes issues could also be placed on Geno Smith. Either way there seems to be a problem with communication between the two.

Provided he doesn't want a big pay raise.

One can only hope that Geno will shown the door out of town. Talk about a knucklehead of a qb. Turn over machine in the red zone. It is time to start fresh
