Coach Grubb is no longer with the team, not part of our team's future. Would Geno be the next?

Probably depends a lot on who the new OC is, and that hire won't happen until whomever we're looking at is done in the playoffs.

Why would an OC that's already in the playoffs come to Seattle?

I don't think so. you already have him signed through next year and the draft for QB's is hot garbage. Unless Cam Ward inexplicably falls to you at 16 or wherever were picking, Geno is better than just about any other alternative.

I think Cam Ward is the odds on favorite to be the number one selection as I type. Nobody worth getting will be there at 16 IMO.

Of course, if I’m wrong about the draft, that will make about 28 years in a row.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if John and Mike aren't nearly as high on Geno as some here are.

For those wondering, we're drafting #18, not 16. (Also, for the 'You should've tanked the last game crowd', we still would be picking #18 even if we lost. Tanking doesn't work in the NFL, so please stop bringing these terrible takes here.)

I wouldn't be shocked at all if John and Mike aren't nearly as high on Geno as some here are.
And I would be absolutely floored if they were as down on him as some here are.

For one, I'm pretty sure John and Mike actually watch other QBs every once in a while...

That said, Geno coming back is definitely a complicated mess that's not as simple as 'Can you easily get someone better?' (No.)

I'm also not sure if Grubb leaving improves or hurts the odds of them sticking with Geno. For one, the swiftness with which Grubb was given his walking papers suggests that Macdonald and Schneider were pretty clear about what the biggest failing of our offense was, which was the play caller.

That said, one of the biggest benefits to keeping a guy like Geno with Grubb as your OC is that he represented a certain level of continuity and a standard for the offense (back-to-back seasons as a top 10 offense, primarily based upon his play). This is valuable when you are bringing in a completely-new-to-the-NFL College OC because helps you understand whether the concepts he runs are NFL ready or not. (Obviously, they weren't.)

If they bring in an established NFL OC, that's no longer something they need and then they will want to tailor their QB to fit whatever scheme the new OC has. Geno is a really good pocket passer who has wheels when he scrambles. He's not really a 'dual threat' style QB--let alone a run-first guy--so somebody who wants to run something like what the Eagles or Ravens are doing would probably want someone else.

Also, Geno's old. You keep (or extend) Geno based on the idea you're putting together a team to compete next season (or the next, at the furthest out).

So, does this signal Geno is on his way out too? Not sure. It'll be an interesting off-season for sure.

Well, Coach Mike was in the AFC Championship game last year. The patience paid off, and we still got him. Just because a team is in the playoffs, doesn't mean someone wouldn't want to come here. There are some average teams in the playoffs this year. Broncos, Texans, Rams, Bucs and Chargers are all pretty mid.

No way in hell Geno is gone unless they want to downgrade to Howell.

I don't understand the logic behind getting rid of Geno at this point in time. That would be like quiting a job you don't like for a worse one with less pay with the hopes the one you want is available in 2 years

Why would Macdonald shoot himself in the foot by committing either way right now? We don’t even know who the OC is going to be. I do believe we are going to be looking for an OC who will make running the ball a priority and having. Geno can offset that type of game really well.

Will Geno stop changing the plays all the time? Will Geno actually snap the ball with more than 1 second on the clock and/or force timeouts to be called?

I remember reading elsewhere and on here that Geno, since College, has never been the brightest when it comes to football intelligence. Like, he can play the position but he’s always relayed on his superior physical tools and arm strength.

However as those diminish (he’s turning 35), how much longer can he relay on that?

I can't be the only one screaming at the TV or from my seat "snap the damn ball!"

And Russ was guilty of that last second crap, not as often, but it was maddening at times.

You know what's really ******* stupid? Most of the people here defending Geno aren't high on him. We're just not so dumb as to think the alternatives people float here are better.

Yes, I'm talking about Lock.
