When you put the onus on Geno to carry the team, that is exactly what he will try to do. When the opponents know this, they game plan for it.

This is the gist of what Macdonald is saying. He doesn't want Geno to carry the team, he wants complimentary football to carry the team. Just ask Joe Burrow about the importance of complimentary football. Personally, I don't want a QB to carry the team. I want him to be a bus driver. Seattle's only championship came with a bus driver.

Geno replaced the fan favorite Russell Wilson, some 12s never forgive him for that

Geno didn't do the PR stuff like parading his his family around that would have soften the hate from the above 12s.

Geno wasn't blessed with move star good looks like Hass or Wilson. Geno dkai talked funny, a big step down from Hass and Wilson.
I think this is what drives some of the wild Geno is elite crowd. They hate(d) Russ so much that they want Geno to be elite because it shows we don’t or didn’t need Russ. When I look back at who is the most vocal not a shocker but most of them can’t stand Wilson.

It’s the same with the always critical of Macdonald crowd, they were adamant that it was a massive mistake to fire Pete and guess what? When we were struggling they were ultra vocal about Mike being in over his head, were only going to win 6 games etc. another non shocker when we won 10 games not a single one of them said anything positive about Macdonald.

People are largely predictable and yes that includes all of us.

The thing about Geno is that we have no real replacement for him and he's under contract for another year. Of course MacDonald is going to say the things he is saying. Calling out a guy in the media is almost never the move. Geno at this point is our only option and I don't get the vibe that the Seahawks are going to look for a replacement this year unless he tries pushing the issue. Even still, I'd imagine they'd give him the money over the guys on the market.
Yup. MM isn't stupid. He knows Geno is the best option we've got now.

Only speaking for myself but -
1. I was ready for RW to move on so I didn't think more or less of the person who replaced him and was okay giving him a shot. BUT we seem to be able to figure out our OC won't work out in ONE year but they can't figure out that Geno is a Dead End in THREE years? JS is a moron)
2. The ONLY PR I give a crap about is post season success. As to that Geno is an utter career failure and the future isn't any better.
3. I don't care if our QB looks like toffee as long is the part of a Super Bowl contending team (GETTING to the Super Bowl is a crap shoot so I would be happy for a couple postseason wins in the same season) It's a laughable though with Geno as QB.

You are right, I am a Pete Carroll fanboy. I was a 9ers' fan but followed Pete to Seattle and became a 12. OK, I followed Pete and I truly dislike the Yorks. I wasn't sure about Macdonald, but I like the result, so that's that.

Macdonald is a YOUNG, ROOKIE head coach, he will make his share of rookie mistakes. At some point, when going gets tough, the tough gets going. A rookie HC could let roadblocks, or even current success cloud their decisions, or they could build on the experience and get better.

strawman take that holds no water. A few people didn't like the trade originally but that quickly dies when Russ looked like absolute dog$hit the next season. Even to a Russ Fanboy he came off as fake to me and I never liked that about him.

This. Last time I checked, the job of a qb is to make good decisions and execute. Over ELEVEN seasons, his record indicates that he's average to slightly above average at doing that. That's simply not good enough. The goal is to win a sb, not to win 9 or 10 games every year. I just don't understand why so many are willing to settle. Take a chance, swing for the fences. You can't hit home runs and separate the team from the rest of the pack by playing it safe and bunting year after year.

Pretty sure it's the "cut Geno now and play Sam Howell next year" folks who are willing to settle.

Geno as a run threat was dead dead dead mid LAST season. Never figured out why. Thought it was the OC just force feeding shotgun lineup, but it was worse than that. You're right.
I have accused Geno of saving his body for one more long-term contract. I made that accusation as a Geno fanboy, being the first to advocate Geno as our starter.

It floors me sometimes how much credence some people still give to coachspeak involving players. The team has significant money tied to Geno and lack the means to acquire an obvious upgrade. If Mac has concerns about Geno, he's not going to express those publicly. It doesn't benefit the team in any way whatsoever to undermine the starting QB in the media, and Mac is smart enough to know he doesn't want to get a reputation for being the coach who throws his players under the bus. Doing anything other than showing his team that he has the upmost confidence in them would be the antithesis of positive culture building.

It's entirely possible that he really does think Geno is THE guy and believes that the idea of trying to replace him is laughable, but we won't know unequivocally what the team is thinking until we see what actions they take once such actions are permitted.
Spot on. This is how I see it too.

This has to be the 10th year in a row we criticize long developing pass plays with a bad offensive line. Why does every OC do this?
