Even when the team is looking great most don't enjoy it.

Many of us bleed blue and green, and we have really high expectations this year. We've waited a long time, and we dont' want to see any signs of a let down.

That being said, it's going to be an awesome season. If we thought last year was great, just wait. We're going to see new wrinkles on offense, and the evolution of RW continue. He's going to have some growing pains, but there's no doubt in my mind he'll continue to improve and amaze us like he did last year. Our run game is going to continue to take over games.

Once fully healthy, our defense is going to be outstanding. Can't wait to see what pressures Quinn dials up with the new pieces. This "joker" thing I keep reading about, I want to see it in action. And of course, we're going to see the LOB smash people in the mouth.

So it's going to be a fun season, no doubt, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be critical or reactionary.. It's just what fans do.

If we lose the opener ... or the SF game ... this place will be a Carnival of Stupidity.

Just be glad our city doesn't host the Tebow Carnival. Although it looks like those clowns and bearded ladies might be retiring soon.

I just love these weekly superfan posts that bring out all the superfans on the board to talk about how everyone else acts irrationally.

We should hand out buttons or superfan monickers.

Im somewhat new to this forum and don't know a ton of Seahawk fans, but it seems to be the norm around here. We look great, probably better than we ever have before the start of a season and it seems most still just worry and find things to pick at.

Is this just the result of never winning a superbowl? I just find the lack of confidence odd, maybe its a Seattle thing, i dunno.

We probably only have ~20% chance of winning the Super Bowl at best, so how confident should we be? Football has a really significant element of chance to it. I root for Seattle to be so good that it's not left up to chance.

An example of an error I see regularly is, e.g., "We don't need Percy Harvin, we're plenty strong without him." Well, sure, we still CAN win, but our odds have dropped a little. It sucks to reduce your odds. Having Harvin meant we had more depth. It doesn't help to have a layer of depth peeled off before the season starts. Now, if Baldwin gets hurt later in the season, we're exposed.

I want to see a dominant team. I don't want any suspense. I want a team that is so strong that it can overcome any but the severest, most unlikely bad luck. I want to relive the UW championship team from when I was a kid. That was the only time I wasn't nervous watching my team play. The only question was whether they'd enlarge their NCAA leading margin of victory. That team may have played the most dominant single season in college football history.

So, for example, when a Harvin goes down it's disappointing. There was a small chance that including Harvin on this offense kindles a special dynamic that leads to a historically transcendent offense. There was a chance that Seattle would outshine the regular season 2007 Pats AND win the Super Bowl. Now we don't get to see that.

My opinion: It absolutely IS a Seattle thing. We've seen one of the most dominant regular season baseball teams fail to make the world series and then plunge into an endless abyss of mediocrity. Superbowl XL, enough said. The Sonics? It may be silly or childish, but I really struggle to see how, as a Seattle sports fan, we can expect anything other than disappointment.

The fact of the matter is I, and I really doubt I'm alone here, have somehow formed this subconscious conclusion that if the Hawks don't bring home the trophy this year, it will never happen.

I'm VERY new here, so I don't know how things usually go, but at least this year I would credit the worry, panic, and freak-outs to the sense of urgency that comes with the Seahawk's opportunity for success this year. For the niners, packers, Pats, etc., this year is an opportunity to win a superbowl. For the Seahawks, this year feels to me like THE opportunity, and some of us are just straining our eyes looking for the first signs that the wheels are coming off. Again.

It's at least a NW thing, if not sports wide. I am a Mariners, Huskies, Seahawks, and Trailblazer fan. Sometimes, if I am feeling upset after a loss I just avoid forums of the teams I follow... Oh and I avoid my Mom. In fact, sometimes I have to practically hang up on her during games.

We could be up by 30 pts in the 4th quarter and throw a pick 6 and my Mom will be like, "This team is going to lose the game if they aren't careful. They always do this. I'm about to root for someone else. Why do we always go for losers." She'll even call me. In fact, I'll be setting on my couch knowing my Mom is going to be calling me. Sometimes I can't take it. My Dad is normally even keel. Mom gets upset if they are way up and even give up a play that goes 7 or 8 yards.

There are five of us boys. So, over the years Mom has become diehard. She used to gripe about us listening to games all the time, but I used to catch her working in the kitchen with a little radio snuck in there and turned up.

Correct. Seahawks.Net runs neck and neck with CheifsPlanet for the amount of negative nellies that post regularly. At least they have an excuse much like Jets fans. It makes me angry to be honest.

Your just isolated. This is no different than any fan base. Go onto other fans web sites after a loss and you will see the same thing. I enjoy reading Niners boards after a loss. They are so heavily based in band wagon fans that aren't familiar with the ups and downs of the game that any loss is the sky is falling.

It's a product of listening to too much sports radio in Seattle.

Oh yeah, I irrationally assume that Seattle sports are cursed. I pretty much always wait for the bottom to fall out. I cannot help it. I think that the sporting event that really broke me for good was that playoff loss at home to the Rams in 2004 where Bobby Engram couldn't catch a pass thrown right into his hands at the very end of the game. Twenty-two years of losing and no championships to that point, and that game was the straw that broke my Seattle sports fan back.

I have no rationality when important games are actually played.

I don't know bro. Don't live back there in Tacoma anymore so I don't know what the talk is. Personally I'm not nit-picking, I'm just being somewhat quietly observant. I'm concerned with some things. Run stopping (zero technique), linebacker depth, and guard play. Obviously if RW3 gets hurt, thats a season ender.

But yeah, we look good. I think if guys live up to ability and come back from injuries we have the stuff to win it all. Better then ever...I think you're right. Been a fan since the 80's and I can't remember a time I had such high hopes and more confidence.

I hate to say it, but that was the vibe when I left Seattle. The attitude about sports seems to be kinda negative. Borderline pessimistic.

Eeyore is what I call it

I'm not in the sky is falling catagory, but i'm not about to sit here and say this team looks great, because it doesn't. There are elements that look great, several that don't. There have been some bright spots, and there have been some disappointments.

spots that look good.

Running backs
Kearse, williams, tate
RW (at times)
Legion
linebackers ( when not having to cover tightends/backs)
run blocking

Speial teams

Not so good:

Run defense at times
pass protection
pass rush
penalties
Sweezy/McQuinton

I think we have a very good team, capable of being great/elite, but we've only shown glimpses of it so far. Yes i understand it's pre-season, and we're sitting a lot of starters, but there are still some concerns that are glaring at this point, to ignore them would be silly. As some posters pointed out already... It's very easy to be skeptical of any team in Seattle for obvious reason.

The pass protection/pass rush, run defense, and TE/Back coverage has to improve, or we're looking at a carbon copy of last season. We have the talent to do it, just a matter of the coaches putting the players in the position to succeed and the players executing the game plan...

There are a number of people on this board who are only happy when they're complaining. There are also a number of other people who seem to think that it's "manly" to let loose all the bottled up frustrations of work, family, etc. on a football game, and as such, really overplay that fact.

I like to read the post every day because I love me some Hawks, but there are times I tell myself I’m done with .net I have to skim over the crap as best I can and get to the good stuff and we do have some very knowledgeable (though intoxicated) peeps on this board. People by nature tend to be negative. Think about how cool it is to fly in an airplane 500+ MPH at 40 thousand feet, but 75% of the people on the plane will be pissed if they don’t get their little bag of peanuts, or can’t surf the net at 40 thousand feet. People were not intended to fly, and the Hawks were not intended (to date) to be relevant. I don’t care about my little bag of peanuts. This is awesome and I’m going to enjoy the ride.

It's not a Seattle thing.

It's not a Pacific NW thing.

It's not a Seahawks fan thing.

It's a sports fan thing. Every franchise has fans who love nothing more than complaining. There are Pats fans right now who have been spinning the doom-and-gloom for 5 seasons. There were Steelers fans calling for Mike Tomlin's job when the Steelers missed the postseason after they won the SB the year before.

Not all Seahawk fans are from Seattle. I used to live in Washington(but not in Seattle) but we moved in 1984. I have been in Michigan since. I don't know "why" but I stuck with the Seahawks throughout this time. I don't worry about other Seattle teams, since I am a fan of mostly Michigan based sports franchises(Pistons, Red Wings, Wolverines(go blue!), etc). Hell, even the Lions are my second fav. NFL team by default. I am still a die hard Hawk fan though.

There are definitely a high number of rule two violations that occur on a regular basis.
