Fantasy football is much different than the actual game. In fantasy, touchdowns are paramount. Geno Smith has suffered in the fantasy world because he's had issues getting into the endzone for the past season and a half. The fantasy ranking isn't necessarily a dig at Geno Smith.

Never done fantasy but I am on the record thinking Geno as a player is mediocre and won't get the Seahawks anywhere in the playoffs. Ever.

As just a QB I could make a list of current playing QBs and probably list 20 I'd rather have pretty easily. This offense with a better QB would do great. I think QB is our weakest position on offense though TE might be close. Defense will have to carry Geno because Geno doesn't make anybody else better.

It's fantasy. The difference between a bottom-20 quarterback and a top-10 quarterback is minimal and often has nothing to do with real wins/losses.

How did the team achieve winning records twice with a terrible defense if Geno has to be carried by the defense?

Meh. Way too negative of a take for me. While I won't say he's a Top 5 QB by any stretch, he's much better than your analysis.

I just really have no idea where takes like that come from. It doesn't bear out statistically, it doesn't check out with the eye test, it just... doesn't mesh with the reality of the past 2 years, and the takes like this are so common.

I've never played fantasy either and couldn't care less about someone's fantasy team. However, IF I did play, Geno puts up some pretty good numbers. You could do a hell of a lot worse. If that Fantasy crap is about yards, td's etc. then he's a pretty good option I would think in the 2nd tier of guys.

All this wailing and gnashing of teeth just reminds me that fantasy football has done more damage to football fandom than any other thing I've seen in all my years. Who really gives a rat's ass about Geno's potential to help a fantasy football team with weird stats-based scoring algorithms?

I've grown to love fantasy football (I'm in 4 leagues). On FleaFlicker I have Geno as my QB2 on one of my Fantasy teams. Last year he averaged 18.2 points/game in our league and was the 17th rated QB at the end of the year. Just goes to show the width and breadth of ratings. 25 is low in my opinion though.

Edit to add: Our league has Geno predicted to be the 22nd QB in 2024, so there ya go.

They're likely looking at the fact we have a defensive head coach and thinking we're going to play a lot of low scoring games via controlling time of possession and running the ball. They're not knocking Geno's ability exactly.
