I don't even believe Geno is a top 20 quarterback. This would've been a nice off-season to address the QB situation, but in typical Schneider fashion, they didn't.

A bunch of people here think Howell is the answer. Lol

Geno is getting older every year. His performance is going down not up.

Well, we won't know until we actually see him play. Is he? Probably not. But I'm willing to find out.

Fair and understood, but I wouldn't hold high expectations like some do. I hope he's the next Tom Brady, but i'm not seeing it.

Actually, his PFF numbers have been going up the last 3 years from where they were before. Matter of fact, his PFF numbers over the last 3 years are significantly better than 6 of his previous 7 seasons.

Geno PFF

As I've been saying, Geno is an above average QB over the last 3 seasons. I agree it won't last but who knows how much more he has in the tank.

We have a spoiled fanbase in general, those of us here since the 70's realize that winning 7 games isn't a given, winning 10 games is appreciated, winning more is hope for the playoffs but not in the bag, getting to the playoffs is something to enjoy knowing it will not last forever, a playoff run of wins is a situation you sit back and absorb, our team and the others are playing sudden death every week and you never know the outcome. Super Bowl appearance Priceless, Super Bowl Win, the accomplishment of a team doing things at the right time in the right way all coming together, as a fan, a bunch of memories that years of support, tears, and comradery with each other make priceless.

Be it Trent Dilfer, Joe Montana, Russell Wilson or Geno Smith you get there by having a team around a QB and setting him up to succeed.

Two approaches to Geno's evaluations:

1. He played with great weapons, so his ranking was elevated, he isn't as good as his PFF grades.
2. He played with a bottom-ranked OL, so he is better than his PFF grades.

Both are true :)

The older I've gotten, the more I've recognized that fans of teams can be delusional, especially during the off season.

It'll be interesting to see how Howell can perform in this offense, but I don't think he's the answer either. Maybe Grubb can work magic and Geno shuts my sorry a** up. Maybe Howell shines. It's doubtful. I'm confident our QBOTF isn't on this roster. He may still be in college or pre school.

A high rate of throwing the ball right into the chest of defenders tends to lower your ranking of an NFL starting QB. I like Geno, but he needs to stop doing that.

I know its fun to trash Wilson but he spoiled us with top 5 play for almost a decade. Then Geno has been much better than many, myself included would be.

A gun, no matter how good it is, is useless if you cant get it out of the holster.

And a QB without a running game isnt going very far. Even Dan Marino couldnt overcome it. Now John Elway.

I think that it would be accurate to say that Geno wasn't the reason our OL sucked?

3. He played with a coach that is increasingly looking like he was a QB whisperer, setting up his QBs to get around the deficiencies of the system (or systems to get around the deficiencies of the QBs), and look better than they would in other systems.

It will be interesting to see how he does with Pete no longer around.
