Anyone else watch the Eagles OL destroy the Rams on SNF, even post-Jason Kelce, and feel more than a twinge of envy?
Thinking how a couple 2nd rounders coulda, shoulda, been prioritized differently, to bring in a couple more stud OL building blocks, instead of shiny object skill positions, and that Philly's OL is what that looks like when a team does that?

Historical cases in point, Dee Eskridge, Charbonnet, and then hoping to find "value" offensive linemen in the late 4th round, 6th round projects, or from other teams' scrap heaps.
Legit "shiny objects", IMO were DK, JSN and K9. Going back in time, for me, it's hard to fault Rashaad Penny, who had the talent but not the health. Sure, I'm cherry-picking after the fact.

I'm not really intending to start yet-another-rehash of bad draft choices, but instead wondering about the future, if/how draft priorities will change with MikeMac and Grubb on board, or if it's really just THAT HARD to identify guys who will be legit NFL O-Linemen, other than in hindsight. MikeMac SAW the Ravens draft philosophy--what did he absorb? Grubb probably has a certain OL philosophy for what he wants to run his offense.

Is Schneider teachable, on OL, in the absence of PC telling him who to draft? What do people think will change in OL drafting, if anything, with MikeMac and Grubb now in Schneider's ear?

They draft well and wisely. Hence they hopped on Jalen Carter.

The Eagles really only invested one high pick in their OL in recent years, just the one they got was really, really good (Lane Johnson). Kelce was a 4th rounder, Maliata a 7th rounder. They just know what they're doing.

BTW, you mention DK disparagingly as a "shiny pick". The Eagles took a WR in the same draft with DK still on the board: Seahawks legend JJ Arcega-Whiteside.

O Line and QB envy for me when it comes to the Eagles. I'd much rather have Hurts than geNO
It's been rumored that Hurts was in the deal Russ nixed to the Eagles. Might have him if it wasn't for that stupid no-trade clause.

While I am envious of the Eagle's OL we did invest the 2nd highest pick we had in the PC era in Charles Cross.
This year Byron Murpey was not a "shiny skill position" and last season our D Line needed at least as much help as the O-Line, and then we got a guard with our next pick.

ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT, I mentioned DK as a LEGIT "shiny object" pick along with JSN and K9, and arguably Penny. By shiny object, I simply mean skill position player with some attention-getting characteristics. Besides the physical measurables, DK had great numbers playing against top competition (Alabama, Auburn, LSU, etc.) and is the son of an NFL player, another success predictor. JSN and K9 also legit for their measurables and production against top-level competition. I was sold on K9 after watching him destroy Michigan.

Eskridge was a huge reach because while he had some nice measurables, he didn't face top-level competition and it was a huge stretch to project his college production to the NFL. Pete Carroll shiny object special, along with Percy Harvin, a background-check failure, and Jimmy Graham, a scheme-fit failure.

In my defense, I just kinda skimmed your post real quick when I was supposed to be working, and when I saw "shiny object" I assumed it was another one of those posts from people who think draft picks on skill players are useless because of platitudes about "the trenches".

My apologies, that's on me. I'm sure we all kinda skim through stuff on here sometimes, but if I'm going to comment on something, I need to make sure I actually know what I'm commenting on.

Also, any post that references the time Walker hilariously dickslapped Michigan gets a big thumbs up from me.

Yes, Lane Johnson, Round 1, pick 4, 2013, Oklahoma

Good to know, to those. I'll add:
Starters:
Landon Dickerson, Round 2, pick 37, 2021, Alabama
Cam Jurgens, Round 2, pick 51, 2022, Nebraska
Mekhi Becton, Round 1, pick 11, 2020, Louisville (by way of NYJ)
(backup) Tyler Steen, Round 3, pick 65, 2023

So, the current starting Eagles OL has two First-rounders, two Second-rounders, and one 7th rounder. They have a 3rd rounder as a backup.

I don't think this shows the Eagles are any "better" at drafting OL, it just shows they more consistently invest 1st and 2nd round picks into their OL instead of "overlooked" 4th rounders that are "just as good as (random 2nd round player). They do scout well and make solid choices on their high round OL picks.

Pete Carroll won a Super Bowl with a patchwork O-Line, an All-Time great defense, a 3rd round QB, a great RB, and "pedestrian" receivers. It worked OK until the defense was no longer elite. I say patchwork because it had three 1st rounders, a 7th rounder converted DL, and a couple castoff pickups (McQuistan and Giacomini) and a couple rookie backups (Bowie and Bailey)

No worries, I was surprised because you have so many great posts here, and I know I wasn't very clear about what I meant by "Shiny Object". I was hoping to hear what people thought, if MikeMac + Grubb will cause the Seahawks to change their draft strategy to invest more high picks on the O-Line, if indeed Carroll was the limiting factor at draft time. I'm sure it's harder when picking near the bottom of the draft.

I was truly impressed with the way the Eagles OL *bullied* the Rams defense in the run game. To quote Russell, "Why not us?"
