A QB is not elite until the season is over.
Just last night I read that the Seahawks in '23 were #26 in red zone efficiency. That is a big sinkhole to fill to reach elite status. QB is a major component of red zone efficiency. Lets revisit this topic after '24 season is over and Geno is still upright.

He’s good, top 20 on a good day, but not the future of the franchise.

This O line concerns me with pass pro, especially on the right side. Could be a detriment to Geno going through his reads and make him trigger happy
Geno is top 15. If you look at total QBR he was 14th last year and 7th the year before. If you look at PFF he was 14th for 2023 and 8th in 2022.

Average those out and you're looking at 10th or 11th. He's squarely in the 10-15 range and that seems about right.

Elite? No, but very good. Elite would be top 5 or 6 in my mind. He's good enough to get the Hawks to the SB and possibly good enough to win it.

As for the future of the franchise, no, but that's more about his age than anything else.

I'm a little cautious in agreeing with this take as it seems reasonable on one level but then thinking about all the variables that have to work in order to be successful there makes me pause. That part of the field is more slanted to the defense to begin with and success requires many things to go right that have nothing to do with the QB and it all starts with the Oline.

I'm not saying Geno doesn't play a major role here but that's true with every part of the field.

Geno just needs to keep his cool
This is one of the things I think he can really help himself with (DK too for that matter). QB's have to be like goldfish, as Ted Lasso says. Flush the mistakes and move on.

A 500 record has more to do with the team in general than it all being on the qb. So not really a great counter.

Elite QB's can elevate shoddy and bad teams to wins in the post season sometimes. Will we ever see that from Geno Smith?

Yeah good luck trying to explain that to a brick wall with more than a few marbles missing.

Its harder to get the rose colored glasses wearing fans like you to accept it even when something is staring you right in the face.

Don't you WANT to eat some crow, Pitt? I did back in 2022, and it tasted great. He's our QB, get behind him and LFG!

I'll be rooting for him everydown Soul as you know I will, but some people need to slow their roll with this elite and great labeling.

Coming from the guy who uses them the most in any situation. Lol.

I've always said they're part of the picture, but they cannot be used alone. They need to be used in context, otherwise they're just numbers that people will use to fit their own confirmation bias.

You need tape to go with stats, especially individual stats. No player exists in a vacuum.

That being said, you sure do bring up box score stats whenever you're in a corner, so... not really sure if "haha, this guy cites statistics!" is the dunk you think it is.

When you don't have Shane calling ass plays and not running the ball
enough, it's going to make a big difference.

"Waldron just drove me mad with his basic and predictable "
If I (not even marginally football smart) could tell what we were going to run about half the time - I'm fairly certain that the D coord of our opponents had it all dialed in.

I am looking forward to this season more so than any in a LONG time.

Elite? TBD for me. I'll take Gino over a lot of there QB's that are starting right now in the NFL. I'll say is overall play is better since he's been here tho. He's been solid.

He is not elite.
His issue is not weather or not he has elite skills or that he can be a game changer. He has shown he can dominate a game in the past.

His issue that keeps him from being elite is the thing all non elite players lack. The ability to be consistently Elite. He is inconsistent and very streaky. This will always keep him from being an elite player and keep him in the he's a good player. Being a good quarterback is not a bad thing.

He went to the Jets, a Graveyard for QB's basically since Namath as far as Rookie QB's, Esiason, Testaverde, Favre had success there just as Rodgers will, but they were all Vets that didn't have to learn while mortar shells were going off around them. Ken O Brein was the last QB as a rookie to be able to succeed in a Franchise most unkind to Rookies. He got the crap beat out of him.

Maybe on one side of the ball. Do I think Geno is elite..no. there are like 4 elite qbs in the league right now due to serious lack of talent at the position. I think he's OK to good but definitely not the entire reason the team has hovered and will likely again hover at 500. The last qb we had was hidden in a mix of an all time defense and great rb. Could Geno have done the same? I think yes.

Give him some legit time in the pocket, and I think he could w/out a doubt surpass his 2022 season. Like most QB's, block for him and he can shred a defense. And he has a lot of weapons to work with. Hoping he plays with a chip and a little anger all season. He's a better QB when he's pi**ed off.
