Dugar from The Athletic...

Grubb had watched film of Smith before working with him, but seeing him in person every day prompted Seattle’s new offensive coordinator to describe his quarterback as “elite.” Macdonald game planned for Smith last year with Baltimore, then held him to the least efficient outing of his Seahawks career in a Week 9 rout. But for Seattle’s new head coach, there was something different about standing behind Smith every day in practice and watching the ball fly out of his hand with the perfect combination of velocity and touch at every level of the field against tight coverage, with the rush bearing down.

Six months ago, Macdonald was noncommittal when talking about Smith as the team’s future; these days, he’ll tell you the offense is built around his quarterback.

“The whole thing revolves around the QB,” Macdonald said. “He’s our quarterback, and we’re excited that he is.”

He’s good, top 20 on a good day, but not the future of the franchise.

This O line concerns me with pass pro, especially on the right side. Could be a detriment to Geno going through his reads and make him trigger happy

Honestly depends on how generous you get with the term 'elite'. I personally reserve that for top 3ish dudes, and Geno hasn't been that in either season as our starter.

There are plenty of reasons for that, but honestly, you could probably say that for any top-10ish QB (which is about where Geno stacks up if you consider both 2022 and 2023), so I personally will go with 'he's top 10ish, but not elite'.

That said, I'm also not an NFL Offensive Coordinator, so what do I know? Plus, the three dudes who have been the statistical top 3 of the last 2 seasons are Purdy, Mahomes, and Tua and outside of Mahomes, it feels a little weird to call the other 2 guys elite. (Dak and Josh Allen are sitting just behind, so maybe put those 2 guys up there? Or maybe I'm just a hater on Purdy and Tagovailoa.)

Ryan Grubb knows more than any of us do. I don't personally think he's hit the elite level at all but I guess we'll see what happens when the offense is built around him.

I don’t know if Geno is elite but I won’t rule it out. Even though he’s older than most with his experience, he’s still relatively young as a starter in the NFL. We have the talent and he’s very accurate. If we can get an Oline to protect for him it will be fun to watch

Can't wait to see what Grubb does with this offense and all the talent they have. He's a pretty creative mofo.

When you don't have Shane calling ass plays and not running the ball
enough, it's going to make a big difference.
I'm excited because Grubb is exactly who I wanted even before last
season was over.
Waldron just drove me mad with his basic and predictable calls that
were poorly executed.
It looked to me like the coaches including Pete were not doing a good
job of coaching.
Now all we hear from the players is how the coaches do a great of job
of teaching and stressing to pay attention to detail.
I don't know how this will all play out but it's got to be better!

On Geno and the Seahawk offense as a whole, I think there's a good chance many of us will be pleasantly surprised this season. Not caught-off-guard surprised, but hey-we-finally-got-it-all-together surprised.

Of course Geno is the future of the Seahawks at QB! Our entire 2024 season is still ahead of us. He could be leading our offense for several more years, which are also our future.

Nobody plays forever, so at some point, someone else will be our future. Since we cannot see that person and have no idea when it will happen, nobody else is our future right now, not even Howell.

People on here make silly comments.

Great points. That offense was next level predictable. We'd be up in our seats saying what the next play would be. And we were right, often. Lame

He can make every throw and has a nice deep ball. He may be a bit of a gunslinger or over confident at times, I'd like to see him be smarter when it comes to those types of plays. The talent is there, and there will be ZERO excuses this year with the revamped OL and Offensive schemes.

Time to nut up or shut up.
