Regardless of what people say, he's been here for 15 years. The excuses ran out a long time ago, but one thing people like to cling to as an excuse is that first 14 years didn't count because Pete was here and was the actual shadow government in charge and JS just signed the papers.
Wilson played at an elite level for a lot of the time here. That and a good running game masked a lot of it

Exactly. You can have a mediocre oline if your Prime Russell Wilson can magic his way out of it (which he did a lot) or have Lynch as your RB to bulldoze everyone.

When Mac was hired he stated he wanted to be physical and run the ball also. That did not happen. Reasons don't matter now it was not there. He will have the control of hiring now I think, now we wait. At least out of the playoffs we can focus on problems right away, target the guys we want and start the process.
Yeah I think this is what it all boils down to. We didn’t have enough in the running game and Mike didn’t feel Grubb would get us there. He would know better than any of us.

Now it’ll be interesting to see who we bring in to replace him.

Consider Bevell got three years too long, that seems like a very short leash. The line and a quarterback who threw picks were the issues. He probably was a little too pass happy, but he deserved another year.

Well, we will always have the Arizona game where Charbonett went wild.

We were 10-7, which is only one game better than last year.

Do you honestly think John let the winningest coach in our franchise's history go because we underachieved, only to get 1 game better? Did Mike look happy to you after the presser? He looked angrier than i have ever seen him.

The team was capable of more. We have excellent talent at every skill position on offense. Our o line, as has been discussed too many times to recall, was as much a function of crap coaching as anything else.

We ran dumb plays, we had zero balance, we surprised no defenses this year (unless them being caught off guard by how easy we made it for them to digure out what we were doing counts), we were situationally inept and every D coordinator knew it.

We gave games away and squandered a year of solid offensive talent under contract and together on a hack if an NFL OC..

A better OC gets us at least the Giants game, easily.

Thats 11 without trying and the playoffs.
I'd put that Giants game at least 50/50 on the D. They were getting gashed on the ground pre-linebacker change. Some of those early losses were before the D got "fixed"

IMO one of the things that really tanned MMs hide the most was the lack of discipline the O line would have with pre snap penalties

I always thought the Grubb hire was odd considering the Harbaugh influence and being a defensive coach, it was more of a Green Bay let’s just out score our opponent view

I will say, it's odd that Macdonald said Scott Huff is a Seahawk, implying that he's staying, given the OL was, to put it lightly, pretty bad this season. One would also think he & Grubb would be a package deal. We shall see.

The offense is the reason why we are watching the playoffs from the couch this year. Grubb had to go. There was ZERO progression, in fact, it got worse as the season went on.
It was an overall failure. The defense against the Giants? The Defense against the Packers? The defense against Minn after the offense gave them a late lead? Defense against the Rams yesterday? And more.

This staff took a .500 roster from the last 3 years and produced about the same results to me. It is exciting because we are Hawks fans, and the change gave us hope. But it was not great on either side of the ball.

Fans are being way too forgiving of the defense in my mind. The offensive stats on a more detailed basis were up just a tad over last season. Yards per game rushing was slightly up as were points per possession, etc. Last season was bad as was this season. So, change is in order. But to me, it is personnel on the OLine , the cornerbacks, and some other areas and not as much coaching.

As for the defense, it had some moments against bad teams but was not good at all against good teams or when it mattered most.

I wonder why Hawks fans are so forgiving for the defense and not the offense?

The OLine is a problem and has been. No OC will magically correct that unless the personnel is upgraded across the OLine.

Even worse looking at some of the statistics that explain why the LBs never bite on PA. The offense had obvious tells that even casual fans were picking up on. Imagine trying to find success playing on an Oline when the defense knows exactly what's coming

If your under center play-action fakes are usually to the weakside and your actual under center runs are usually to the strongside, you’re giving away your entire operation. You don’t think professional coaching staffs and players haven’t surmised this exact tell through a season’s worth of data? Seattle has also had just six straight dropbacks out of 47 UC passes, so the defense can essentially guess two things whenever the Seahawks go from under center:

  • Weakside play-action pass
  • Strongside run

MacDonald has the green light to make any changes he wants to the coaching staff because the buck stops with him when it comes to coaching and play calling. Head coach is fundamentally a management job and so you can't critique their performance unless they have the authority to make management decisions.

That being said, I can't really see hiring a coordinator and OL coach with zero NFL experience if I didn't have enough long-term confidence in their capabilities to let them learn on the job and improve over time. It feels like part of the mismatch between long-term and short-term goals that the Seahawks have had for the last half decade.

I’m a little surprised. A first year OC adjusting to the league after winning 10 games.

I wanted him gone numerous times during the year during my post loss fits.

That said , I always feel bad when it happens. I’m a stupid bleeding heart and I know this is where he wanted to be. I wish him luck.

Of course , being a Seahawks fan , Grubb will probably go somewhere else, “figure it out”, and lead the most prolific offensive in the history of mankind.

I just hope they fix the OL and do not use the new OC card to ignore other necessary changes for another year.

the defense was terrible and it didn't get fixed by changing the play calls, it got fixed by bringing in Earnest Jones

If they had traded for a stud LG would Grubb have had more success with the run and then called more runs?
