In my opinion, this was 100% a Schneider hire. There was no way that Mike McDonald who is on the East Coast knew a lot about Grubb in Washington. Good to see that they are moving on.

The offense is the reason why we are watching the playoffs from the couch this year. Grubb had to go. There was ZERO progression, in fact, it got worse as the season went on.

It was just too inconsistent and spotty at best. There are examples of single games and 1 quarter in that game where the offense was flawless, but then the next quarter it reverts to bad habits or poor adjustments.

Kick ass, Grubb's gone! I guess Mike didn't like losing to both crappy NY teams, scoring a few "runs" instead of TDs vs Bears Week 17, and barely beating the Rams backups Week 18.

The "I told you so" thing is old and used up. Some said he's stick around, some said he wouldn't. Big deal. Nobody KNEW what was going to happen. It's a guessing game. I wish him well, no reason not to.

Have heard this many times before.

- no one could have known Russ would be this bad after he left Seattle.

- no one could have known Geno woukd be as good as he was in replacing Russ.

- no one could have known Waldron was so bad that he'd get fired

This is the thing. You can absolutely know if a guy is good at his job as an OC by how he handles situations, how he schemes, how he coaches up his team. None of that was good, before you even considered how the qb played.

He started fast. Looked great through week 3, and then things spiraled.

Geno probably did himself a disservice by actually functioning as well as he did under Grubb. We squeezed about as much lemonade from those lemons as possible and bit himself in the ass by trying to push for more.

Well, keep in mind, Macdonald is a Harbaugh guy and coached under Jim at Michigan. He's coached under John for most of his career. Lot of overlap where he would know a bunch about Washington's star OC and Kalen DeBoer's right hand man.

JSN is an extremely talented player we used a first rounder on for a reason. He was primed for a breakout regardless of who the OC was.

Possible he played into Barner's unexpectedly great rookie season, but I can't think of anyone else in the offense that really exceeded expectations.
I want to see more Barner - I really like that kid.

This ties into something Mike Dugar said on the his podcast last week. Because MacDonald was a late hire and someone without as many contacts as an older coach, he was more limited that others when putting together his staff. I am interested in seeing if there are any more changes made on that side of the ball.

Mike and Grubb both said they became acquainted abyear or two before and knew of eachother.

But i am 100% sure you are right abd Mac couldnt wait to get him out of town. Waste of a season.

The offensive play I despise the most is the QB handing the ball off from the pistol. The offensive play I despise after that is the habitual use of "empty" set.
I like the quarterback under center for running plays. It does a much better job of selling play action. Cousins used to be great at it, but currently Stafford is probably the best. When he takes the ball from under center, he disguises the play action better than anyone. Seattle fools nobody with their play action (because they don't run the ball enough with the QB under center) and so they went away from it. Stopped using it almost entirely.

On another note, the most difficult play to perfectly execute is the traditional screen pass to the running back. The offensive linemen cannot be illegally downfield before the throw, they have to sell to the linebackers that they are pass blocking for an intermediate/long route, they have to get to the right spot at the right time, and finally, they have to block agile defenders in the open field after the pass has been completed. Seattle hasn't run a reliably legitimate screen pass since Holmgren. They haven't consistently excelled at the play since Dennis Erickson properly utilized Ricky Watters. To me, that is how I grade an offensive line coach. How well is their screen pass executed? It should feel like synchronized swimming. No one is running that play better than Detroit right now. Tampa is pretty good at it as well. Those are two well coached offensive lines.

Speaking of Detroit, their defenders are extremely well coached. They may not be the most talented group and can lose individual matchups, but they anticipate extremely well. Obviously, they spend a great deal of time watching video.

I want more JSN. I was so impressed with him this year, that who ever we get as our new OC really features him. He did great this year, under an OC that can actually scheme and get the offense going, JSN could potentially be that receiver every Sunday that teams panic to play against.

It was the right move. It seemed clear that Mike had a specific vision that Grubb was unwilling to fit into. The maddening 80/20 pass-to-run ratio, the insistence on staying in shotgun, on and on...Makes sense. He seems ingrained in his college ways that simply does not work in the NFL. Sure, Geno was able to throw for a lot of yards and with an impressive 70% completion rate, but overall we need balance if we want to go where we want to go.

10-7 when you're expected to be a 7 or 8 win team is a waste of a season? Hmmmm

Last year it was hard. Mike was hired late, and a lot of the coaching vacancies filled and gobbled up all a lot of the offensive talented coaches. I think they thought maybe Grubb could be great, but they were literally picking the last kid at the kickball wall.

-- Team sources say management was furious that he helped Smith get all three bonuses.

-- I am a big believer in accepting that we don't know what is said, done or demanded behind closed doors. I would not have been upset had they kept him for another year, but if you can't align with the head coach, then you probably need to go.

-- In NCAA football, my Run Pass ratio is 54/46. So yes, the incessant throws on every down was getting to me.

If that were true they would have started Howell or Hall. I'm not buying into that
