You mean you don't like shotgun on the 1 yard line? What's the matter with you?

DK def. gets some double teams and safety help. Can only help JSN and the TE's underneath. I would love to see Geno do a little more dink and dunk stuff, take what the defense gives you etc. Russ had the same issue. Can't always be the long ball or the home run ball.
And no, this is not a shot at Geno, just something I'd love to see more from him and offense.
This is what Geno did when he was first named starter - quick outs - taking what was available - never had the play clock get to 1 (like it does almost every down now). He needs to go back to taking the easy stuff to set up the big stuff. I think the O would function much more smoothly if he did.

Love the quick passing game and rolling him out. If you can't pass block, seems pretty smart to get the quick passes going. And he's very capable of it.

When you can't run the ball, it's a one-dimensional offense, and your team can lose any given ball game, unless your QB is perfect. So until we get a perfect QB or a serviceable run game, this team is not going far. Can't expect the defense to dominate every week.

It feels like Grubb creates great plays but is a subpar play caller. The route trees are good, the creativity is definitely there, but the lack of adjustment for in game situations seems to be the downfall of the offense.

So many missed opportunities to call play action when they do get some good runs in

That's not what this offense is or how it's structured. Those options are only really part of the 2 minute offense. Outside of that, this offense is designed to push the ball down the field. The "dump off" you seek in this offense is what JSN has mostly been racking up catches on. We're facing zone coverage more than any team in the league to counter Grubbs all or nothing deep ball offense and he has yet to show any ability to counter it with the run game or short passing game (quick game).
Russ wouldn't take the check down. Now, the check down with Grubb is all but removed from the playbook

We have the offensive talent to score 21 points every game no matter who we are playing, and we can't even do that. If we had even a mediocre offense we'd probably be 9-3 right now, maybe 10-2. Our defense is the reason why were 7-5 and the reason why we'll win the division and enter the tournament.

We started off the season facing man coverage on 75% of our offensive snaps. We shredded man. We are now facing zone coverage on 75% of our offensive snaps. Some games up to 80+% of O snaps. As everyone knows, there are 2 ways to attack that 2 deep zone and force a safety to come down. Run the ball and quick short passing game.
We can't run the ball and Grubb has yet to offer any kind of quick game. His answer so far is to keep running his passing concepts and mixing in a few more screens. The screens are drying up after a couple games of tape, so we're about to see thjs week if he's willing to adjust or if he's gonna keep banging his head against the brick wall.

Credit to Hawkblogger for charting those snap breakdowns

Basically, the guy needs to dislodge his cranium from his posterior. Remember when Seattle just needed the Def to step up (last month, lol) and they'd be golden? Now, it's the offense...this team is SO close to being whole.

Our offense is actually statistically doing a little better than last year.

I'm actually curious about this because it genuinely feels like we can move the ball down the field pretty decently.

Relative Stat ( 2024 / 2023 )
Points Per Game (15th / 17th)
Touchdowns Per Game (9th / 21st)
Red Zone Scoring Attemps Per Game (29th / 14th)
Red Scone TD Scoring % (12th / 26th)
Offensive TD Per Game (12th / 24th)
1st Half Points/Game (17th / 19th)
2nd Half Points/Game (13th / 16th)
Rushing Attemps Per Game (28th / 31st)
Yards Per Rushing Attempt (29th / 18th)
Pass Attempts Per Game (5th / 17th)
Yards Per Pass Attempt (12th / 11th)
QB Sack Percentage (22nd / 10th)
Seconds Per Play (5th / 4th) <-- Shorter the higher rating

For all the negativity surrounding Grubb (me included), our offense has been more productive this year in comparison with the rest of the league. These stats line up pretty well with our record.

Grubb seems to have gotten more out of this offense but whether it's personnel or scheme, there's nothing outstanding.

Nothing outstanding? The rush stats are abysmal. You can't be one dimensional and expect to win vs playoff level competition.

That's not all on Grubb. A lot of it is on JS too.

That's where I'm at. I'm not saying Grubb doesn't need to improve because he does, especially situationally in certain areas. But to say he's wildly predictable doesnt seem to match up with us moving the ball pretty efficiently with a terrible oline and in my opinion a good but average QB. We're not like the Bengals who have a terrible line but an all world QB which makes an OC's job easier.

I also feel like we're close to the run game clicking a little bit. Last game we almost broke a few. I think he's done enough to warrant another year BUT If Macdonald says nah then I'm totally good with that too.
