Nice writup, soohawk. You did notice I said, "Carolina, with its solid history, is probably not even going to be in any sort of discussion," didn't you? I don't see them in contention for any move. That's why they're simply one of the crappy southern market teams, just not one that's going to be the new Seattle Lumberjacks.

Interesting comments about the Ducks. I agree they're probably not going anywhere, and are probably not even in the discussion. SoCal is a little bit friendlier of a market for them because of the absence of the NFL in the L.A. area. They have an easier time pulling attendance than say the Coyotes, who in spite of doing well now, are still fighting the NFL in a small, disinterested market. The second they have a downturn, they'll be right back on the market.

And the Columbus market is an interesting one. One thing I'd also mention is that even if Ohio is chalk full of hockey fans, many of them are already well established Red Wings, Blues, or Blackhawks fans, if not fans of another franchise elsewhere. It's pretty easy to become disenfranchised with your "new favorite" team and go back to the team you used to like when they're doing crappy, and your old favorite team is doing well, which is exactly the case there.

I agree we're more likely to get an NBA team first, and then an NHL team when we can, even though I'd love to see it the other way around.

Yeah buddy i saw that! :th2thumbs: i just read the panthers part and figured if i was going to be a sensitive hockey fan id toss the market in with all the other non traditional ones in my analysis ha ha.

The part about Ohio residents already having teams is dead on as well. Why would a wings/blackhawks fans leave an original six franchise for an expansion team...shouldn't happen. And the blues have a solid following in the midwest and a decent history to boot.

Phoenix is screwed IMO. They are in a toxic relationship and just keep going back to the well for more financial pain. This whole experience has taught us nothing if we can't understand that they don't even have people giving a damn when they are winning (last couple of seasons) because of shaky ownership, that's not going to change now that their is a new deal. The team will rise and fall in the standing and not be able to weather the bad times when they rear their ugly head next time. This was/is the last chance to make it work. they have about 5 years to see if it can be a viable enterprise in its current markets under the new labour agreement they are going to hammer out this summer (CBA)

Lets make this happen i want the sonics back. Then first game retier #20

And 40's gotta be retired too.

Whenever they do come back though, we definetly need to have a .NET get together before a game.

So....I'd.....I'd probably not be welcome to that....right?
Not unless you brought us Clay Clay's head on a pike.

Nice! I've been thinking of this guy today for NO REASON. Maybe because the Supes are that much closer to returning.

Some good info from Aaron Levine

Aaron Levine ‏@AaronQ13Fox
The second installment of money from the city/county would come AFTER arena is built. Again all this would be paid back thru arena taxes

43m Aaron Levine ‏@AaronQ13Fox
City and county would NOT be liable for any construction or cost overruns. Non-relocation agreement secured is also main part.

45m Aaron Levine ‏@AaronQ13Fox
The city's first bond installment of up to $ 100 million won't come until an NBA team is secured, permitting, shovels ready to go to ground

46m Aaron Levine ‏@AaronQ13Fox
The proposed arena costs 490 million, seats up to 19,000 (18,500 for NBA games) and is 700,000 square feet

47m Aaron Levine ‏@AaronQ13Fox
An amazing deal for county: with just an NBA team, the arena would rely on almost all bond funding from city, not county

48m Aaron Levine ‏@AaronQ13Fox
The deal is not contingent on securing both NBA and NHL teams. If just an NBA team is secured, city will provide up to 115 million in bond $

49m Aaron Levine ‏@AaronQ13Fox
Per MOU, the city will be responsible for up to 120 million and county 80 million only if both NBA and NHL teams are secured

Buried on page 19 in the #SeattleArena MOU: Hansen and City will work to acquire #Supersonics name for NBA franchise.

Tim Booth ‏@ByTimBooth
#SeattleArena nugget: "any NBA Team domiciled in Seattle operated by ArenaCo or affiliate that owns NBA team will use the name Supersonics.”

My dream at this point is for Bennett to just give up the 'shared' part of the history too.

They'll get the name I'm pretty confident, didn't he already say he'd sell it back?

But I want the history as well. From what it sounds like from Thunder fans, they have no interest in the franchise pre-theft anyway.

Seattle SuperSonics, Established 1967
Oklahoma City Thunder, Established 2008

And let's just be done with it.

I was with the understanding that we retain colors and name and that history is split, did the NBA renige or Bennett on that issue.
