Richard Conlin is full of it. To this day, he's been by far the biggest contrarian on the city council regarding this deal. At last week's meeting with Hansen, at one point he asked if Hansen and the Sonics operation would operate as a non-profit. It was his flippant way of saying he doesn't think for profit businesses should receive any sort of government funding whatsoever when Hansen brought up performing arts centers receiving government funds. He clearly doesn't care about this at all. He mis-spelled Hansen's name multiple times in his email. Shows exactly how much thought and attention his given this issue.
Don't take his words too harsh. He attempted to speak on behalf of the city council. But since his email hit, just about every other member has gone on the record as saying they haven't made their minds up and that Conlin doesn't speak for them. This was never going to pass unanimously with all 9 members. Conlin has been predicted by those who pay close attention as the biggest critic/cynic. Now it's been confirmed. It's ok, One vote doesn't mean anything. We currently have more members who appear to be sure yes's than sure no's, with most in the middle taking in all the information.
And thanks to Conlin blowing up on the news/twitter/radio today, the rest of the council has been placed on notice. People are paying attention. A concilmember like Conlin comes off as not giving two shits about this thing, something many voters want, and they will reap the consequences. This whole thing getting the amount of attention it received today is in an odd way a good thing.
