We have five players on our team that are thirty years old or older

Tarvaris Jackson is 30
Paul McQuistan, is 30
Heath Farwell, is 31
Jon Ryan is 31
Chris Clemons is 31

Chris Clemons is the oldest because he was born in October, while Ryan was born in November and Farwell in December

PC/JS just do not like older players

They all sleep with one eye open.

Seriously though, Ryan will probs be the only over thirty that is on the team next year. We are cutthroat with the 30+ guys.

How old is Brandon Mebane now? I feel like he's been around forever but then again they're young when they come in the league.

The salary cap is hard on older players because of the incrementally, annually increasing, league minimum wage for veterans. The NFLPA labor agreement has actually decreased the career lifespan of players. It is typical for veterans to take pay cuts, but the teams must still abide by the league minimum.

In my opinion, experience can often compensate for losing a step in speed for at least a few positions. The real problem is that the older guys have taken a beating and seem to take longer to heal up from injury than the young guys.

Because the occupation is practically year round now, I believe the concept of having old veterans show the young guys "the ropes" is less of an important factor than when the occupation was relatively seasonal.

The infrastructural format has created an environment where the teams are younger than they were three decades ago. Typically much younger. The modern NFL is bigger, faster, and stronger, but having watched the NFL since the 1960's, I believe they are not necessarily playing smarter. Youth is the reason. The NFL is more of an arcade game than an intellectual game, relative to the veteran laden teams with continuity (no free agency/no massive player movement) of the 1970's. It was how a handful of "super teams" were able to maintain decade long dynasties. Just my opinion.

The veteran players of the NFLPA wanted more money going to them rather than the rookies and 2nd and 3rd year players. And the NFLPA got it for them but it has backfired to a huge degree. Not so much for the top tier in their positions but for the journeymen players the pay structure has been a career stopper. But on the other hand look at the rest of society. Careers aren't what they use to be.

Could see Tarvaris hanging around for a couple more years, but otherwise, yeah.

Waiting on someone to question why we signed all of these one-year-olds.

I wonder if the players get life clocks on their palms in camp....

Last Day...renew in Carousel.

Guess that makes Pete and John the Sandmen.

i think they will swap out Clemons for Bennett at the end of the season. Clemons is a valued pass rusher by the team but he is older and Bennett is younger plus more versatile by being able to slide inside to DT.
