With the debut of the Seahawks rivalry uniforms on Thursday night, I wanted to take a moment to highlight the other two jerseys that the team only wore once. (This isn’t to say the rivalry uniforms will only be worn once, but it’ll at least be until next season before they make a second appearance.)
First, are the infamous green jerseys worn in the 9/27/2009 home game against the Bears. Much like the rest of Jim Mora’s single year as our head coach, these are best forgotten about. One interesting bit of history with these jerseys, is that they’re what puts Jon Ryan in the lead as the Seahawk who wore more styles of jersey as a Seahawk than any other player in team history - Reebok blue, white and green to go along with Nike blue, white, wolf grey and action green.
Second, are the often forgotten first throwback jersey’s worn in 1994. For the NFL’s 75th anniversary, the league allowed teams to wear throwback style uniforms which the Seahawks opted to unveil in their 9/18/1994 home game against the Chargers. These jerseys featured blue and green stripes on their sleeve in place of the Seahawks logo which was a nod to their first era of jerseys (1976-1982) which featured stripes instead of the logo in the sleeves. This particular game also marked the first time the team ever played an outdoor home regular season game as they played at University of Washington’s field while the Kingdome underwent repairs for ceiling tiles that had fallen.
