Given the last 3 players waived have been claimed expect more injury designations.

Velus Jones reverts by rule to the PS.

Not sure which players but should the team wish to keep the player they are needed in to decide upon so 0perhaps IR is an option. This method isn’t unknown. Maybe I’m spitballing.

Am focused upon developmental players or roster fringe guys with promise.

Clearly they will need to make some decisions with Mills and Saubert both of which are in the solid depth category presently and possibly needed help.

Surprisingly there were no announced roster moves today. Been awhile since that happened. I know Coach said on Monday that Sundell should be designated to return to practice this week. I assume that will come tomorrow.

I hear you my friend, I looked again and again myself today. Last week the changes came somewhat slower than usual too.

Perhaps they think the team is close to being set for what they want right now.

They’ve got a few guys pending a return or just being activated and I’m sure they’re assessing their options and the risks of messing with the chemistry they’ve got now, and the potential of the loss of proven talent to the waiver wire.

This next month is really going to be exciting going forward. Earlier I thought this final stretch was going to have just 2 harder games, being the two Divisional games, then I was worried about Indie but they’ve fallen off and now They’ve got QB problems. Carolina is legit now and problematic so all 4 games could be critical in determining playoff position.

Hawkstorian your wisdom and depth of knowledge is needed. Rylie mills is an NFI player noew able to practice as we know. Are NFI returns treated the same way as IRr returns and subject to the IRr numerical restrictions of 8 returns in the regular season and 2 more in the post season? I'm uncertain of the rules there and have been thinking the NFI return is a different situation and the player just becomes a roster addition subject to the active roster limit is this right?

That's an interesting question. I don't think I've ever seen so many potential players coming back from reserve lists in a single year to the point where the team has to maybe hold off on activating player while waiting for someone else. Personally I'm really hoping Tory Horton can come back as he could be a huge factor going into January, but that may mean Dareke Young has to stay on the sideline. From what I read, I think NFI counts as one of the returns but don't hold me to it.

Thanks for your reply John my reading leads me to different understanding as to the reality of the player’s release from the NFI designation and the only restriction is the 53 man roster limit not the IRr return limits. There are timing considerations which are relevant after 9 weeks and when the 21 day window for practice assessment ends a decision to activate or not needs to be made. This means if the player isn’t activated they are done for the year and treated like non- returnable IR for that season and for them their contract would toll. If activated the contract wouldn’t toll.

Maybe I’m wrong but rule wise NFI is separate scheme from IRr.

Agree about Horton vs Young completely

Seahawks waive two veteran players:, Griffin and Akers:

This likely means the team will be adding back at least one of the IRr returning players.

I somewhat expect Griffin to clear waivers and be added back to the PS. Not at all sure about Akers who was an inactive last weekend over Velus Jones.

These two cuts were inevitable. Jones didn’t look bad at the end of the game on Sunday in mop up duty and Griffin was always brought in as a spare piece. The question now becomes which two will be activated this week.

I thought Akers might be vulnerable when he was inactive vs. the Falcons. Griffin was obvious as he’d been cut 2x before. I wonder if there is some physical reason why Akers was let go, not in shape, or unable to do what was needed, slow to get with the scheme? I had hopes he could help the running game which still seems less effective than hoped for. On that front it will be interesting to watch what the team does. Either or both could be added back to the PS, or others added if available. Churn, churn to make the whole better.

Now with two open 53 spots it’s going to be very interesting to see what the team does with the 4 eligible players to return and maybe soon 5 with Horton coming eligible soon. Mills runs out of eligibility next Wed. and if not fully activated would have to be IR’d ending his season. Sundell, Saubert, and Young also all wait as available.

Who else is vulnerable? Who else is quietly nicked up as IR candidates, Are there several younger players the team wishes to protect to develop? What will be prioritized? This is new and truly interesting stuff for me as a Hawks fan and self confessed roster geek. No doubt there is some legitimate depth I’m sure the team may wish to protect, but each of the “potential returning players” have solid abilities even if some are more specialized which makes the team stronger.

The next 4 games are truly going to be critically important for the outcome of the season. Messing up the team chemistry hopefully won’t happen with the decisions made.
