I dont even understand how you manage to pull Howell into this.

You do know that Bienemy was so bad in Washington that he wasnt even offered a job in the NFL in 24. And thats after being the OC under Reid.

Going back to the Russ days your view of offense seems to hinge entirely and exclusively on qb. When we were good, it was all Russ. When we were bad it was the o line and Pete being too conservative.

Yet with Geno, we have had worse o line play, no run game (Russ had top 10 run games with the exception of 1 year), and until this year, league worst defense. But somehow its all on Geno. There was zero evidence when Schotty was here that HE or his playcalling was the issue, yet that didn't sway you from elevating Russ and criticizing everything around him. Now, GENO is the source of all evil, despite everything around him having been PROVEN to be flawed.

As to Washington, if you know football or even talk to a fan of Washington, as much as they see Daniels as a revelation, they will also tell you that Klingsbury has been a master at crafting a scheme in Washington that is perfectly tailored to his personnel and his rookie superstar. In Washinton, the OC is first and foremost at the top of his craft. Even when he was in AZ, despite failing as a HC, he still solidified his place as one of the top playcallers in the league by virtue of how intelligent his scheme was. And because he is so goodhe is able to get the most out of each position group and for the QB, create a safe plan from which to operate, maximizing Daniel's incredible skill, with a scheme that puts him within a high functioning system.

So as to your question, which has nothing to do with getting at the reality of the complexity of the team sport that football is, no, I dont think Howell would have Washington in the championship game. I also dont think if you swap Grubb for Klingsbury, they are in the championship game... not in a million years. Nor do i think Daniels would have Seattle in the championship game if he were our qb.

Football is infintely more complex a game - from multiple elements on the field needing to work well together, to quality leadership and sound strategy being required to maximize talent - than the oversimplified, intentionally dismissive (and transparently biased) stance you seem always bent on taking.

You do realize the no (zero) OC's under Pete was ever offered a head coaching job and your bringing up Schotty leaving as a by product of Wilson. It had nothing to do with Russ. Schotty wanted to run his offense and Pete's interference was too much, so he left. Pretty simple.

As for the Russ days, no I don't think he was the only reason the team was good, but there were plenty of times where he willed wins when Pete's awful game plans were stinking up the place. You know that though. Also, that one year where Wilson didn't have that top 10 run game, how did he do? I'd love to see Geno try and replicate that season.

Klingsbury was a total failure in Arizona and now he's some messiah in Washington. Wonder why?

I'm aware that football has multiple factors, but having a QB that has that special "IT" goes along way. Seattle doesn't.

I wish he was a hell of a lot better. I just don't see how he's magically going to become more clutch, even if the O Line improves. It's still his decision making that keeps him away from being a great QB, imo.

Another thing to keep in mind if they lose Geno is they would get a 3rd round pick in return most likely. Small piece of everything of course but not nothing.

He is under contract. It's either trade, cut, or extension. Don't see him playing next year under current contract.

A good Quarterback makes the O-line better.
Kinda. Quarterbacks who are good at navigating pockets, negotiating pocket space, and playing within structure make the OL better. Plenty of good quarterbacks are actually quite hard to block for - we know that one first hand.

Geno is a fairly easy QB to block for. He's pocket-based, eyes downfield, and is pretty decent at evading rushers in a phone booth.

Good quarterbacks don't magically improve their offensive lines by being good. That's just fanciful grass-is-greener stuff. They can do things to make their OLs job easier, sure. Problem is that Geno already does most of that as a pocket passer with good fundamentals.

That's entirely unconfirmed and is, in fact, explicitly disputed by Corbin Smith.

Nice tweet. I can post 100 sites that differ from it, but people will believe what they want. This tweet is basically saying Russ controlled the franchise (some of you actually believe that). The real reason is Schotty called too many chunk plays when defenses figured it out and wouldn't adapt.

You're saying Russ had nothing to do with Schottenheimer's dismissal, and I am posting a reputable Seahawks source who refutes that. Nothing more. Dugar (The Athletic) also reported about the disagreements Russell had with both Carroll and Schottenheimer about the offense after the 2021 Cardinals matchup.

Russ might not have commanded it from on high and been immediately granted his request while everyone else protested, sure. But he was the franchise quarterback who we, at the time, could not get rid of. He obviously had influence.

It's as if fans hated the guy and are convinced Seattle would have won 5 or 6 Super Bowls with Joe Blow from Clueless State.
That sure would be a convenient argument to dismantle, but I don't think that really captures the attitude of any party in the thread.
