Boring argument. He's about where he should be. I don't care either way. I just want them to wait until after the season to redo his deal.

HE CHOSE to sign the deal. He needs to play with his hair on fire and earn a raise. As it should be. Cry my a river if you're asking for more money 1 year after signing a deal.
If you had that scenario at your job, would you consider yourself overpaid?

Simple question.

"slightly overpaid?!?" In general, NFL QBs are overpaid but in relation to his peers, how do you figure this? Geno is at #20 in terms of avg/year. I'm pretty sure any starter you don't see in this list of 22 QBs is on a rookie deal.

How many of the QBs above him in salary would you be willing to just trade straight across for?

Sorted by APY below. Pretty close to the same. Buuut. Look at the QBs with a lower APY. Which of them would people prefer at their APYs vs Geno at his?

Qbs

Simple question though. You avoiding answering it basically answers it for you.

No you wouldn't consider yourself overpaid.
My god dude, take a pill. I didn't say he was underpaid OR overpaid.
If he doesn't like his contract, he shouldn't have signed it. Why is that so hard to understand? I have a right to my opinion. He needs to wait until after the season.
And I hope JS sticks to his guns.

I didn't say you did.

I just asked if that scenario were to happen to you, if you'd consider yourself overpaid.

No one would. If peoples peers and new hires all made more money than them, they would not call themselves overpaid.

Okay, we can move on. I knew my opinion was "against the grain" but I didn't expect it to start an argument or derail the thread.

That should be taken as a moderator directive btw. Stop derailing the thread because you don't like the opinion (or are okay with my opinion, or agree with my opinion). I gladly concede that most don't share my opinion and I stated it as nothing else other than my opinion.

Lets put this thread back on track.

Please give him another one-year deal like his current deal, while looking around for a younger franchise-type QB.

If Geno's worth is relevant to your belief in him, it seems like it is a perfectly reasonable topic of discussion. But I digress.

I've believed in Geno since he took over during Russell's injury. At the time, his advanced stats were pretty fricken good, and he clearly had the physical tools to succeed. Back then, much to the chagrin of many, I said there was no reason he couldn't be our Matt Stafford—a talented QB drafted into a bad situation that just needed the right team/infrastructure around them to succeed at the highest levels. I still feel that way about Geno. Nothing has changed.

On the topic of Stafford, he didn't win a playoff game until his thirteenth season as a starter. He won the Super Bowl that same year. Just because someone hasn't done something yet doesn't mean they can't do it. So why would we judge a relatively young starter, like Geno, on playoff wins? It doesn't make sense.

They judge him on playoff wins because they already moved the goalposts around on the other false grievances they had. They have nowhere else to move it, other than the Super Bowl, but they know they'll get laughed at if they try that.

So that's where the anti Geno crowd is left. Their last patch of earth before they dine on crow for eternity.

Geno is merely a bridge QB
It's well documented on this site that I think Geno is an above average NFL QB. Somewhere just outside elite and most likely in the 10-15 range for an overall ranking. That said, I do think Geno is a bridge QB because of his age. I wish he were younger but he's now 34 (10/10/90) and most likely has less than 6 years left in his career.

So only 6 Super Bowls then?

(That's a joke)

Curious what it will take for those of us who think Geno is merely a bridge QB or simply not good enough to win it all to believe he just might be our current franchise quarterback?

What kind of stats does he need to have to convince you?

Did you know that Geno Smith had more game winning drives in the 4th quarter (5) than ANY other QB last year?

Truly. What will it take?
Consistency. I'm hopeful he will be good in more than half the games like the last two years. So far, he's been streaky. First-half-of-22 Geno + second-half-of-23 Geno is certainly elite.

There are reasons there was almost no market for him when he was a free gent.

A lot of people talked a lot of nonsense about Geno the last couple years. But the fact is he is THE GUY.
