There has been a few reports that Geno is looking for a new contract. Anyone concerned?
How much do you think he wants?

Yeah his agent is putting it out there…I guess he’d better perform this year. They won’t do anything now, prove it year for Geno

Sounds like Geno Smith is a team player. He wants to lower his contracted salary by 50%, so the team can get a player or two, to field the best possible team this year. Sounds like Brady right here.... Nothing wrong with this at all.

Or...

He knows he is likely out of Seattle in a year or two, and knows the new coach is looking for a better option?!?! 40 million guarantee just won't pay his groceries and new standard of living.

Or....

Jody Allen didn't write back and blocked Smith's agent e-mail, so he is reaching out to media outlets, to help leverage his demands.

Or...

Something completely different.

That would have made a lot more sense when there were actually players to sign. Or if he was married to a supermodel worth hundreds of millions.

I think he just knows he has leverage right now and realizes he's worth more now than he probably will be after the season. Wouldn't blame him for it.

Aaaaand, this is why getting and building around a rookie qbotf is preferable to a high priced veteran. But here we are. Tiresome.

It's a lot harder to hit on a rookie, but you get three years where you couldn't pay them more if you wanted to so it's pointless for them to hold out. Yeah, Geno is somewhat underpaid, but having a QB who realizes he's underpaid can be a ticking time bomb.

Howell looked good tonight, so I don't think the time is right. Geno needs to prove can be more than above average.

Locked on Seahawks said the rumor is they have been working on an extension behind the scenes. Didn’t sound like it was only him wanting it done.

Not a good time IMO but he should be the starter still . Dak wants one too. Just doesn't make sense to me.

The difference is that the Cowboys pretty much have to give Prescott whatever he wants, or they live with Prescott's $55.1M cap number for 2024, then let him walk in free agency and get nothing more than a pick at the end of the third round of the following year's draft for it, and still live with Prescott's $40.1M cap number for 2025 even if he's off the roster.

Everyone's known for a long time that Prescott would be holding all the cards now. I remember reading more than a year ago about how strong Prescott's negotiating position was. The way the Cowboys have mismanaged this situation is spectacular.

Your second scenario seems most likely. He maybe sees the writing on the wall and wants to fatten his bag while he can.
