Whatever you think of Geno's worth, it makes sense for him to want an extension now. And if JS and MM value Geno in the mid-term (next two seasons), it also makes sense for them to extend him at some point this season.

The team's contention window (cap-wise) is the next 2-4 years. Geno's likely asking price is somewhere between 33-40M APY. His cap hit next season is 38.5, so they could give him a faux 4-year deal and backload that hit in the two final seasons.

Geno's agent is asking (nicely) for more money. That's exactly what he's supposed to do. This is a guy that has openly talked about the need for fully guaranteed contracts. He knows, if Geno plays well this year, he can probably use this "I told you so" situation to get more money and more guarantees, next off season. "You had your shot at $___, but now it'll take more.". If Geno plays poorly, no one will spend 5 minutes talking about what happened 10 months ago. Geno's not holding out. This is a discussion about next off season.

JS is talking to Geno's reps and keeping lines of communication open, but not signing any checks. That's exactly what he's supposed to do. I posted in a different thread that JS has waited years to be in this situation: 2 QBs that could start that both have value (contracts) for years to come. JS is following the Green Bay process and is building value for the team.

The fact both sides are actually doing what they should and what you would expect us a good thing. No surprises is good. It's not TWilliams or BAiyuk. If their agents had been in open communication for a season, maybe they'd be adding value to their team instead of being a big distraction. Laying out a position now is just a starting point to start adjust expectations depending on '24 performance.

If you compare Geno to Baker Mayfield as an example. Both QBs that fell out of favor with multiple teams, had a resurgence and seemed to turn it around to a positive degree…

Baker is set to make 30 mil this year (with a playoff win), and Geno to make 25 mil with no playoff wins. I don’t think that’s too far off market value…apples to apples.

To me it simple just show that you deserve it. Make the Hawks have no choice but to pay you. If I'm JS I wouldn't pay him. I would wait to find out if he can be an impact player that deserves to be paid.

You guys are way over analyzing this shit.

Can't wait for the season to begin.

Agree.

His agent is perpetually trying to make his client more money. It's what they do.

Defense attorneys perpetually argue their client is innocent even when they're guilty.

Car salesman try to sell you the protection package knowing you don't need it.

Strippers focus their attention and dance in front of the richest dudes even if they're ugly.

It's a J.O.B

Geno ain't getting shit unless he becomes the shit.
