Unless disaster strikes him this year, another $11 million is guaranteed after the 2013 season for a total of $25.5 million guaranteed. Seems pretty reasonable after all. I hope Sidney doesn't get jealous

First of all, thank you for editing this thread rather than making a new one.. lol

Excellent deal- I like the 6th year added on there. To get a player in the entirety of his prime is very rare. Also, keep in mind that the cap is expected to increase next year, and in the future as TV does well. I wouldn't be surprised if he's the 10th highest paid WR in 3 years.

I like it. Mike Wallace got $13 million per year so this one isn't bad.

On a side note: All professional athletes make too much money. I mean in regards to market value.

Here's the details:

The base salaries are $2.5 million in 2013 (fully guaranteed), $11 million in 2014 (guaranteed for injury for now, fully guaranteed on fifth day of the 2014 waiver period), $10.5 million in 2015, $9.9 million in 2016, $9.95 million in 2016, and $11.15 million in 2017.

Thus, $14.5 million is fully guaranteed, with another $11 million guaranteed fully after the 2013 season. The total guarantee, then, is $25.5 million.

Does this mean that his salary cap hit is only 2.5 million this year? If so, hurry up and over pay for Desmond Bryant!

If his cap hit is only 2.5 million this season it means he can keep Sidney Rice and Matt Flynn for 2013. Nice.
We can keep them no matter what basically. We had like $17m going into FA, before Harvin, before cutting Leon. We're fine.

Does his signing bonus count against the cap? Cause that's another $12 million.

I could be mistaken but I highly doubt the cap number is only 2.5mil this year. If so, then you are right J, go get Desmond!

For cap purposes, his signing bonus is prorated over the life of the contract. $2 million of his cap hit for 2013 is his signing bonus, the remainder of the cap hit is hi $2.5 million salary.

So his cap hit this year will be 4.5 million? Still VERY reasonable!

Yep - enough to get Desmond Bryant + one of Osi/Freeney/Abraham unless someone's price gets driven up too far in a bidding war.

I'd really like to see the Hawks use some of the extra room to lock up one of our own to a longer deal like they did with Unger last year.

As pointed out below, bonus is prorated over first 5 years, total cap hits (and dead money) by year would be:

2013 - $4.9 million ($25.5 dead money)
2014 - $13.4 million ($20.6 million dead)
2015 - $12.9 million ($7.2 million dead)
2016 - $12.3 million ($4.8 million dead)
2017 - $12.35 million ($2.4 million dead)
2018 - $11.15 million ($0 dead money)

Think I've got it this time.

More then I thought it would be, but PC and JS did an admirable job. Like his cap hit for this year, gives us flexibility as far as buying a DL.

I thought with the new CBA the signing bonus was spread out over five years max, even if the length of the contract is longer. Is that wrong?

Could be, I was wondering how that worked.
