Could be, but there aren't many more sought after or higher profile college HC positions than USC. My guess is that he was going to go to USC given the opportunity no matter what, and really, can you blame him? There aren't very many people that would turn down a pretty major promotion to stay at a lesser position even if things were going great at their current position.

If he was going to stay, it would be out of loyalty. But what coach is going to stay out of loyalty when the press calls for his job after having the school's best season in a long time?
I don't know if it was the difference or not, but what I do think is that this wasn't an easy decision for Sark, he was in talks with UW for a long term contract extension just a few days ago. Hearing the malcontents bury him over unreasonable results based analysis probably reduced the friction to him leaving.

This is the best thread on .NET at the moment.

That makes me feeling much better about Sark's departure.

I think the big question is whether or not he's ready to be a HC outside the USC system. Has never been more than a positions coach before this year. Was never a D or O coordinator at any level from what I can tell. I think it would have made sense for USC to retain him as coach due familiarity, but might be a gamble for another major program.

I believe he was head coach at Mississippi or something like that for a few years, and it did not go well.

Say what you will about Leinart as a pro, but he was a terrific college QB. It's not really Sark's fault that he lacked an NFL arm.
