Lots of folks in here were saying he was terrible. He played well, then y'all said ya wanted to see him play well against good defenses. He played well against good defenses. Then people said they wanted to see him drive the team down the field and win a game, he just did that in this game against Arizona. Then y'all complained that Kyler was terrible and that is why Seattle won. I am really sick and tired of the goalposts moving over and over as to what will finally bring your soft brains into understanding that Geno Smith is playing extremely well.

Here is what he said:

So, I think it is high time you all come in for your serving of crow or just delete your accounts. We are tied for first place in the division BECAUSE of Geno Smith. Show the man the respect he deserves.

A lot of people said Zona was bad D and bad O.

I said that their D was decent/average. But we already saw how Geno does against good D, he got killed in that SF game. The next 3 games will show how well Geno is, @ Chargers, v Giants @ Zona.

I do not see how waiting to see him play more, and against different types of teams before proclaiming him a star NFL QB can be labeled as “moving the goal posts”. I see nothing but praise and “I was wrong about Geno” posts here, yet you are still not happy. Do you need the fan base to demand Geno get a 5 year $400,000,000 contract because he is Brady, Montana, Elway, and P Manning all in one body?

Don't forget, "He can't throw for 200 yards for a win." Next game, Pete takes the training wheels off, and he proceeds to do exactly that

Then

"Yeah, but he can't throw a deep ball. It's all dink and dunk." Starts throwing those deep DK routes.

Then

"Yeah, but he has no touch, and he can't close out games." Proceeds to throw some absolute dimes in the end zone.

Then

"Yeah, but when you need that game winning drive, he isn't clutch."

I just hope they keep coming up with things he can't do. Seems that every time they do, he proves them wrong the next week.

Geno is currently top 10 in passing yards and passing TD’s. There’s not a single Hawks fan who shouldn’t be happy with his production so far. He’s playing as good as anyone should ask for.

You might as well cause you have shifted positions more than Joe Biden. I still see you refuse to make a vote on the teams final win counts yet you have screamed Playoffs in many threads but have also said how terrible Geno is.
You wanna final win count? Mudda fuqin 14 wins!

It's a small contingent, but there are still detractors here who DO keep moving the goalposts away from simply acknowledging that Geno is playing well, despite a new excuse getting smashed each week.

Most people do not take well to being wrong. I try very hard not to be one of those people. I hate being wrong. It is the worst! If I am unwilling to modify my positions when there is a proven need, I am still wrong and continue to be wrong. If I have an open mind, I get the chance to be right going forward.

I believed Geno to be nothing more than a mid to low level backup based on his years of doing nothing in the league, poor play in pre season, and marginal play while filling in. Geno, through his play this season has forced me to reevaluate my position. While I need to see more before anointing him franchise savior, he makes good decisions, moves around well, and throws a really nice ball.

Meh, let it go man. He's balling out, MOST of us who doubted him have admitted he's pretty damn solid.

I'm not holding onto it. I'm just explaining where OP is coming from.

The majority is firmly within the camp that is looking at this the right way, which is agreeing that Geno has balled out for most of this year

Why though? We're all wrong about stuff all the time. That's life and that's sports. We make predictions and/or put out our opinions. Sometimes you're just flat out wrong, and if it means the team is better? Cool. Crow doesn't taste so bad when you're winning. You're not gonna' win some prize for "being right"
And let's be real clear, there are PLENTY of people who probably want them to fail, just so they can be "right" about something. Even if it means the team sucks for it. Sad really.
But, that's not going to change. People are who they are, and that's fine. We don't all have to agree on stuff, and we never will.

I never said Geno was trash. I did say I didn't think he was a long term solution. He's been in the league for almost 10 years and had two mediocre seasons after he was drafted by the Jets in 2013. Since then he's done next to nothing in the league until this season. Maybe Geno realized, now towards the end of his unremarkable career, that this was his last chance to do something in this league.

I am all for a Geno reinventing himself and most people love a good underdog story. I hope he continues to prove that he can play in this league because if he does the Hawks win games and show the world they were right to move on from Wilson. But it takes any quarterback more than one season to prove that they belong in conversations about who is elite.

outstanding post ^
And by the way, to the OP, you don't get to dictate how someone feels about Geno or any other player on this team. Get used to being sick of the same thing over and over again. The exact reason why I stopped talking about a certain former player, that people are still obsessing over 24/7. And that's fine, people are gonna' do what they want and stand their ground. It is what it is. I think Geno is playing damn good football. I'm not convinced he's the future of the franchise, yet. That's MY choice.

Never said I wanted to. What I said was, quit moving the goal posts.

Geno has played extremely well so far this season. He's played some tough defenses too - Broncos, Saints, and 49ers. Heck the Falcons may be better than originally thought seeing they crushed the Niners last Sunday. Hope he continues this trend.
