Even when Russell gets time in the pocket, no one is open. Here's a thought: Tate at RB. The guy is magic every single time he gets the ball, but the only time he's open is on punt returns. Imagine him running screens and swing passes out of the backfield or being a check down for Russell. And we've all seen what he can do in the blocking game (see Sean Lee, Dwight Lowery). Dude packs a punch and isn't afraid of anyone. Tate and Marshawn lined up in the backfield, that would be something. This scenario would also give more playing time to Kearse, who seems to get the most separation out of all the wideouts. Kearse also has the best WR specs of the bunch, not including Harvin. We've seen his speed on that kick return in the preseason, we've seen his ability to go up and get the ball, we've seen his strength when he blocks. Tate is short (he can go up and get it) with no long speed, and Rice is lanky with no speed. Can't really say anything bad about Baldwin, he's saved our asses twice this season with amazing sideline catches. His catch yesterday was literally one of the greatest catches ever (you just can't tip toe any better than that). I don't know why Stephen Williams isn't out there more, the team desperately needs a deep ball threat. The bottom line is they just can't get separation. Each WR has something that they are great in, but getting open is not one of those things. Obviously, the banged up o-line is playing a huge part in everything bad that's happening with this offense. I think this separation problem will vanish when Harvin gets back, he is exactly what we need to take pressure off of everyone else.
