Will we see a big trade this offseason?

Pete and John seem to always pull of some kind of deal this time of year. I can't say i've ever saw any of them coming but they like to try to improve the team via trade more then most for sure.

If they did pull off a trade anyone you'd want to see them target? For me it's Ryan Kerrigan of the Redskins. He's on his last year of his deal and the Skins need to make room for Chase Young. Who you got?

I would say a trade is likely, but it wouldn’t need to be soon. They also have a history of pulling off big trades just before the start of the season (Richardson, Clowney). I couldn’t really guess who might be available because that usually comes as a surprise. I just hope that if they do trade a high pick, it’s for an impact pass rusher.

I'd love to see us trade one of our 2nd round picks for Slay.

I know some fans think Flowers will improve, but I've seen enough after two years to want a serious upgrade at that position, and Slay is still one of the top 4-5 corners in the league, and will be for at least another 2-3 years.

He's best friends with Diggs, and IMO he'd fit in great, and I'm just fine with giving him a big CB contract, especially if we're not going to re-sign Clowney or use cap to sign one of the top D-line FA's.

Bottom line, if we're going to spend the next 2-3 years trying to rebuild the D-line, we need an elite CB, and Flowers ain't it. We saw in the playoffs what happens when you go up against a good QB, he's going to pick on Flowers.

THIS times 100 ^^^^
Slay would make this team immediately better on defense. Shoot, he's better player than Griffin. That's a hell of a duo of corners.

With the way they have fumbled the top of the drafts in the last 3-4 seasons (way too many reaches and misses), I'd actually be ok with them moving picks for established players. I'm tired of seeing our blue chip picks get wasted on the likes of LJ Collier (I know, I know...it was his first season - but come on, I think we can see how it's going to work out).

Doubtful, IMO. If they could sucker Clowney into a decent deal, I would consider the off season a success, for the most part. Pete & John don't like to deal early in FA and I don't blame them. You almost always over pay when you do that.

Bingo, exactly this! I’d trade a 2nd rounder for Slay.
I feel the same about Flowers.

I'd rather draft a quality CB than sign Slay who is too expensive and not worth the $, Harris from Denver would be a better acquisition and fit.

The team keeps Clowney but not Reed, drafts a couple of DTs early, a RT is traded for or acquired in FA.

Every team wants to draft a quality CB, but unfortunately elite CB's are hard to find later in drafts......especially ones that don't need 2-3 years to develop.

I'm always for drafting and developing defensive backs, can't have enough of them. But if we're in a SB window with Russell in his prime, I don't have the patience to keep a revolving door of mediocre CB's that keep costing us playoff games..........and make no mistake Flowers cost us the GB playoff game. Or at least GREATLY contributed to us losing by getting torched by Adams over and over.

^This is especially true since PC won't allow Griffin to move with the opposing teams best WR at all. So either we get a true quality corner by trade/FA or keep gripping about the draft pick who keeps getting burned every game. Whether it's Slay or maybe Harris the CB position opposite Griffin needs to get a lot better next season.

The Lions were rumored to be asking for two 1st rd picks for Slay last deadline, so a late 2nd probably won't be enough. He's also vocal about being the highest paid CB, and the Hawks still have to pay Griffin.

Would rather draft some competition for Flowers.

Diggs is a hell of a WR. But, the way he acted during the playoff game showed a lot about him. His team was up big at NO, yet he's whining on the sidelines about not getting the ball more. Dude, your team is dominating a road playoff game against a very good team. Not a good look imo.

There are about 25 top notch WRs in the draft this year . The Hawks should go in that direction rather than spending big on a big name FA WR . Olson should be a huge addition to the ball catchers and 2nd year guys like Ursua should get more chances remember his come back catch was so close to winning that SF game . BOTH lines need upgrades by any means necessary ...trades or whatever . IMO

I agree with this, for the most part. Too often, FA WRs are divas that whine about how many catches they get, which is a problem here, because of our basic philosophy (not a ball control passing team) and the way that Russ spreads the ball around. We need guys who make the catches that get thrown their way and stick to a team-first mentality. You don't often get that in a WR who wants to "set the market."

We can grab a WR day 2/3 and be fine. Heck, I think we need another RB as much as a WR. We're a bit thin with Penny probably being on PUP to start out.

All the reports on Twitter that I saw said 2nd or 3rd rounder, not multiple 1st's. That ludicrous to think that the Lions could get multiple 1st rounders for a 29 year old CB in the last year of his deal.

2nd is adequate, and the Lions would take that in a heartbeat. The tricky part would be you'd also have to negotiate a long term deal with Slay, of which he says he wants 15M a year.

Which I'm fine with. Dude's still a top 5 CB, and will be for another 2-3 years.

Like I said, if Pete and John are planning on spending big cap dollars on Clowney and other D-line free agents? I'm fine with no trade for Slay. But if they're going to continue to do what they've done the past couple of years, bring in stiffs like Ansah and draft poorly? Then they better damn well go get someone like Slay who can cover, and not rely on a bottom 10 CB WITH a bad D-line.
