Kind of like Brandon Mebane was ..... as a 3rd round pick.

I hear this all the time and I couldn't disagree more. I had a 1st round grade on Mebane that year.

I stopped reading there. The reason it doesn't matter is neither yourself nor I am in an NFL front office. Its cool to be an arm-chair scout/GM (as we all are from time to time...some more than others) but using that as some sort of factual evidence in an argument with someone is ridiculous. Especially considering there is ZERO proof to even verify your arm-chair claim. Mebane was a 3rd round pick who has turned into more, lets live in reality. Jville made a valid point.

Good point. And it is worth noting that their college experience was very different.

Jordan Hill grew as a person and player thru a unique college experience.

He stuck with Penn State through a most difficult time when others abandoned the school. He set an example for teamates and student body. He played hurt. He improved as a player and as an athlete each and every year. There is no reason to think he has peaked. Someone with Hill's work effort, commitment and character can certainly become a core player at the NFL level. Given his history, I have no doubt Jordan Hill is "all in" as a Seahawk.

I actually think Hill reminds me of a very young Mebane. IMO, it's entirely possible that he ends up starting at 3 tech and that's a good thing. That does put us pretty short along the interior, but they both have very long arms. For instance, Hill's arms are an inch longer than Jesse Williams. Or was is more? Dunno, but significantly longer anyway.

Hill is just a natural football player. Natural leverage/lean and a natural at playing angles while keeping OL's paws off of him. Really a damn good football player, but that 3 tech spot is going to be a battle to win. Plus, I like Hill backing up Mebane. McDonald was highly, highly inconsistent against the combo and too often was just blown out of the A gap.

Oooo look, another T.I.T. acolyte. Complete with 'You don't get paid to do this' dogma.

This whole thread is asking for general opinion. Kip gave his. The 'fact' is you read 'I had a first round grade..." and inferred, "He WAS a first round grade...". The problem isn't with the writer. It's the reader.

Probably a byproduct of a lifetime of 'I stopped reading there...'

This hits the nail on the head. You can also add that Hill has only been in a decent strength and conditioning program for about a year...he most certainly will get bigger/stronger.

Wait till the pads go on. Williams is just more physically and visually imposing. And he's a more unique prospect being from Australia. Hill was nationally kind of seen as a reach. Played kind of anonymously at Penn State.

I think Hill is going to look really good once the padded practices start. I don't think it's sleeping on him, so much as he's not a human interest story. And thus far, that is about as much as we can generally see.

I agree you can't tell what a D-tackle can do until the pads are on. They don't look as sharp as the skill positions in shorts doing drills. Their job is to be physical and push people around until you can do that on the field its a guessing game. It will be fun to see how they do when the pads are on though.
