Speaking of Darnold, just cuz he is mentioned in the thread title, I think it's a great example of how a lot of QB talent gets rejected by the NFL without a big enough sample size. Some guys just get a bad break, start with a mismanaged team, without much talent around them and fanbases and coaches alike give up on the guy too quickly, but given a decent team and a second chance, you find a talent that got wasted on the bench for years comes out to shine. Geno Smith is another example of such.

I agree. Which is what you shouldn’t waste high draft picks on a QB, unless it’s a sure thing…but there are plenty of sure things that haven’t been so sure.

Baker Mayfield was recently thrown in the dumpster as well. After the Browns traded Mayfield to the Panthers for a 5th round pick after signing Deshaun Watson, the Panthers decided to roll with PJ Walker instead of Mayfield and released him. A lot of bad decisions by incompetent front offices and coaches there. Mayfield, like Geno Smith, is now playing pretty well under a team-friendly deal of $33 million per year. I would rather take Baker Mayfield at $33 million than Trevor Lawrence at $55 million.
