I was stoked to see the hawks run a tush push. Our short yardage game has been abysmal. This is a whole new thing now
Could we have run it effectively last year?I was stoked to see the hawks run a tush push. Our short yardage game has been abysmal. This is a whole new thing now
I think you're right. The OL wasn't quite up to snuff yet. As easy as it looks, the tush push is not guaranteed. Everybody needs to be in sync with the OL launching together and the QB/backs pitching in on cue.Could we have run it effectively last year?
I’m not sure.
The eagles use Hurts because the dude can squat 600lbs. (Barkley can do the same though.)
They won't ban it. How would the language of the rule work? Thou shall not rush the ball with the QB under center on 4th down? Illegal formation?I love it. It was undefendable for Philly, and it should be as well with our personnel. It’ll likely get banned in the future, but I love it this season for our new identity on offense.
Well, IIRC it used to be illegal for an offensive player to physically help a ball carrier advance. Not sure when that changed, but it's been a few years. Tush push is just a natural advancement of that act. They won't ban it. How would the language of the rule work? Thou shall not rush the ball with the QB under center on 4th down? Illegal formation?

I think it’s changed..how many times have you seen Tackles and Guards help move the pile?Well, IIRC it used to be illegal for an offensive player to physically help a ball carrier advance. Not sure when that changed, but it's been a few years. Tush push is just a natural advancement of that act.
Like I said, it's pretty common now, but I think it used to be illegal.I think it’s changed..how many times have you seen Tackles and Guards help move the pile?
Other teams have tried it with mixed success. The Iggles had that monster center the was a key player. Maybe he's still there? Thought he might retire.
Not every team is the Eagles. Just look at how badly the Bills did this in their playoff loss to the Chiefs.Absolutely ridiculous that every team isn’t using the tush push.
It was indeed Milroe, but Darnold remained on the field in the fullback/safety position in case anyting went sideways -- and to also give the D something to think about on 4th and 1. I like the idea of Darnold staying on the field for this play, but we've now telegraphed it to everyone, so we lose the surprise factor in the regular season. Stupid coaching decision to show your hand in preseason. Amateur hour.I thought they brought in Milroe for the Tush Push, that's what I believe I saw on the highlights. Was I on drugs? No alcohol even in my system at the time.
When I saw that, I thought, "Fantastic! They've already put together a package for Milroe to contribute NOW in crucial situations! Great coaching".
Thanks for the additional data! The highlights package I saw, puzzlingly, omitted that play.It was indeed Milroe, but Darnold remained on the field in the fullback/safety position in case anyting went sideways -- and to also give the D something to think about on 4th and 1. The formation the Seahawks were in with guys like Ouzts and Russel and saubert and bobo we could do more than the tush push. And milroes wheels, man, that’s cool. Thanks for the additional data! The highlights package I saw, puzzlingly, omitted that play.
I don't agree with your assessment of losing the surprise factor... Jalen Hurts and the Eagles have no surprise factor and the play still works nearly every time. We'll see in the regular season, and you can say I-told-you-so the second time the Seahawks version gets stuffed. I'm happy they think enough of their O-Line push to install the Tush Push.

Here is a picture of it and what Tusc2000 stated about Darnold's position on the field :Thanks for the additional data! The highlights package I saw, puzzlingly, omitted that play.

Almost looks like a victory formation. Here is a picture of it and what Tusc2000 stated about Darnold's position on the field :

Hope to see plenty of those this season.Almost looks like a victory formation.![]()
Lol ok. They didn't show anything except the threat of another play. They might have a play that gives Darnold the ball in the same formation with a receiver leaking out. If anything, it gives defenses something more to think aboutDarnold staying on the field for this play, but we've now telegraphed it to everyone, so we lose the surprise factor in the regular season.
