Thank God none of us take the field on Sunday
Exactly. Thinking your team is destined and that your opponent is over hyped is EXACTLY the formula to get your ass beat. Thank God it's not the fans on the field indeed, nor their 'fanatic'... 'if you aren't with us in thinking we are the best and will beat everyone, you are against us' mentality.
The 9ers could be a paper tiger, sure. It's been said they haven't beaten anyone of quality. Sure.
But they have arrived at they No 1 seed contending position having lost their 2 best defensive players as well their franchise QB for a long stretch, having to beat teams with a cast-off has been bench rider.
For anyone who thinks we might have the mojo of a team with destiny because we beat the Rams last week and doesn't think the 9ers don't carry that same conviction in their locker room given what they have overcome to get where they are ... You are fooling yourselves.
Our game against them, assuming we both win this week, will be a toss up. We still have yet to prove we can put together a coherent, mostly error free offensive game plan for 4qtrs since we lost to the Rams in week 10. That's 7 weeks of marginal play. During that time, the 9ers having been slowly cranking up their offense to the point they were unstoppable against a common foe we could only muster 6 FG against.
So yeah. I sure as hell hope our team isn't walking into that game (or this one against the Panthers) with the belief that they are fine. They need to be on the drawing boards with a clear eyed, sober urgency looking at the reality that yeah, they won a historic game against the Rams last week. But that they gave up almost 600 yards doing so. The 9ers are capable of doing similar things to our D that the Rams did and the formula is on film.
We need to tidy shht up in a hurry or we will get beat.
