We don't necessarily have to win or 9ers lose

The 9ers can win out with us losing next week, and we still could potentially win the #1 seed. Strength of schedule is currently in their favor but can change next week. If strength of schedule ends up a draw, what is the next tie breaker? I'm sure we can still win

Nope. We lose and the Niners automatically have the Division tiebreak which is the second tiebreak (after head to head). Today's game was a game we needed to have. The Niners are a lead pipe lock to win out.

They are not a lead pipe lock to win at UoP. Favored yes, but hardly a lock.

Arizona is coming off an emotional win against Seattle. They are bound to have a fall-off week. Not only that, but San Fran is simply a better team. So is Seattle, but unlike Seattle, San Fran wins against teams that aren't as good.

If we win and 9ers win....Seattle clinches. Is this correct?

Yes. Actually even if we tie, we clinch.

Holy crap dude, not this again.

They're favored by 3 points right now against Arizona next week. 3 points. 3-point favorites win at approximately a 60% clip. They are not a "lead pipe lock" to win out. I would agree that it would be beyond shocking for them to lose tomorrow, but even assuming that as a win already, there's no lock about their final record.

I disagree. The Niners are a 3pt favorite on the road That means the sharpies at Vegas have San Fran as about a toucchdown favorite on a neutral field...and that is probably understating the case. I would be stunned if San Fran loses another game.

...they're not playing the game on a neutral field, man. They're playing it in Glendale. That's all figured into the final line, as you know. Historical data indicates that they are about a 60/40 favorite next week per that final line. Historical data trumps whatever your gut feeling is.

I am not buying it. San Fran is good at beating teams that aren't as good as they are, and Arizona is not as good as they are.

Yeah, why would you buy long-term statistics that have held up very consistently over time when you can instead go with your magic 8-ball and/or gut feeling? I totally understand; cognitive bias is a hell of a drug.

Those same long term statistics indicated that we should have beaten Arizona by twenty.

The Rams had had our number for the past two years. I would submit that those that have watched those games have noticed this.

No, those same long-term statistics indicated that we would win this game 81% of the time. When you have an 81% chance of something occurring, guess what? It doesn't happen 100% of the time. If it did, that would be a flawed stat. Outliers happen. That's why speaking of small sample sizes as if they're meaningful is fatally flawed.

(Also I have no idea how you're saying that those statistics indicated that we shoudl have beaten Arizona by twenty when the betting market - which is what I've cited - indicated that we should have an average result against them of winning by approximately 10.)
