Cut Clem .... Easy ...he is no good to the team anymore.

Just like Rice added to the pile, Avril does the same.
Abraham is better, less risky, and costs less. Easy calculation, even if it's a cold one.

It also saves over $9 million in 2014, the year where we need every penny we can possibly get. People always focus on the immediate savings then forget about the rest of the years.

I'm not sure you are right on any of those accounts.
Cutting Clemons saves 3.83 million this year. He is 8.17 against the cap and 4.3 million of dead money if we cut him.
Abraham's cap number would have to be 3.83 this year which is improbable.
I also am not sure he is better - he has been about as effective as Clem, 3 years older, and doesn't know the defense.
In terms of risk, I have no doubt Avril becomes the starter and Clem plays in a reduced role to reduce wear on the knee. I am sure that he can be just as effective in those snaps.
I think cutting him after this season makes much more sense. Only 2.15 mil in dead space.

You might remember that a year ago I centered my 2012 offseason plan around signing Avril in free agency (IIRC, I had us drafting Wilson and Irvin in the mid rounds). I had us signing him for 5/50 and felt pretty good about it. Same size as Clemons with a similar repertoire and a touch more speed. You watch Avril and you can't help but be reminded of Clemons in terms of his style. Of course, Detroit franchised Avril and that was that.
So to get him at 2/15 is pretty crazy. I think it's right up there with Wes Welker as the biggest steal of the 2013 free agency. Basically, if he busts, we aren't on the hook for much, and if he proves himself worthy, we can always sign him to an extension later.
I think Avril is probably a healthy step down from 2010-2012 Chris Clemons, but a big step up from Bruce Irvin. He plays the edge better than Irvin and has a knack for swatting at quarterbacks to force fumbles. Ideally, you'd play Avril across from Clemons as much as possible. I'd like to replace Clemons with Abraham, but we'll see what happens there.

Of course if they're skeptical of his health, cut him.

SeahawksFanForever":1c0fnegi said:Disagree with this at the moment. I want to wait until we find out how exactly are they going to use Avril. I think Avril is capable of making a bigger impact than Clemons. He might not be as good as Clemons when it comes to stopping the run but I think that Avril is arguably a better pass rusher than Clemons.
