Pete's first year Okung was out with his annual injury and it seems to me our line outside of that was pretty patchwork and somehow we still managed to rush pretty effectively. I felt that was a fairly good job by Cable. Here's hoping he pulls some BS like that out of his hat tomorrow.

Of course that year Tjack got murdered to a bloody pulp behind that line, so that's a given of the Cable school of blocking. So my prayers for tonight are for:

- Russell's life
- Cable-magic leads to a halfway decent run game

There's a video in the NFL forum of 15 minutes of SF highlights, in the highlights you see Russell getting INSTANTLY dudes in his face, not related to him holding the ball, but he survived that and made the plays he needed to. Squirting out of the pocket when necessary, making hot reads. Not a pretty game (for Russell) by his standards but a win. It was at home, but the Carolina game was similar, only minus any rushing attack from us and he pulled it off.

So my whine-volume on the OL is still at ear-splitting, and I wish we'd protect our savior a little better, but he is the savior after all. My biggest reason for thinking we can win this is that Russell flat out hasn't lost a game by a large margin here no matter what the circumstances, and it's a truism, but if you're within 7 you can win it. My money on RW for making critical plays against the Texan D in the 4th quarter in a tight game as opposed to Matt Schaub stopping our D from making a critical play against him in the 4th.

What might be really interesting is if after all my wailing about the OL, we get in the 4th and RW leads a game-winning drive, and our D is on the field with less than 5 minutes left needing to protect the lead. Then we find out if they can be dominant the ENTIRE game on the road, not just the first 58 minutes. They sealed the deal vs. the Panthers, but looking at the kitties record in tight games, I think part of that was the kitties sealing the deal against themselves.

I think there is a lot we can do to counteract the rush. Obviously, a good running game. But the use of bubble screens, play action screens and Wilson running around helps too.

It will be a difficult game but things to keep in mind:
The Seahawks are +6 on takeaways

Seahawks defense averages giving up only 9 points a game.

Houston is giving up on average north of 25 points a game

Seahawks have NFL's top pass rush, according to MMQB's Pressure Points rankings.

Can we really do much worse on the offensive line anyhow? It is sad but a fact

OL ranks 31st: http://mmqb.si.com/2013/09/26/justin-ho ... pass-rush/

Cable wasn't the OL coach Pete's first year. It was Gibbs, who suddenly retired, and then the OL coach was Pat Ruel.

Reasonably.

All I will say is...
Chefs. Seahawks. 1990.
7 sacks by DThom, 9 total.
Seahawks still won.
Concerned but not worried. I expect this game to play out very similar to that one. Ugly but we'll take it.

Nice! Good analogy. I remember that game; Krieg slipped out of Thomas' grasp on the final play of the game and fired the 25 yard strike to Paul Skansi, who got rocked but held on.
So instead of 8 sacks and a W, it was 7 sacks and an L for the Chefs.

I predict we put up 30+ on the Texans: Russell goes wild, and Marshawn goes Beastmode for a 100+ yards.

Oh no Breno...? I say, bring on the future. The time is now!

LJP, McQ, The Sweeze...Bailey, Bowie, and Big Game James... I predict this team of horses will show some serious skills against the overrated Texans D, and come through for us BIGTIME! In fact it will be so loud and clear, it will go a long way to finally shutting up all the Chicken Little doubter worry-warts constantly saying O-Line is such a glaring weakness for us.

We have youth AND depth...on the O-Line too...and this game will prove it.
31-16 Hawks.

I looked into the Houston is giving up north of 25 a game, the truth is that stat is misleading. Schaub has thrown 3, yes that's right, 3 pick sixes. And their special teams has given up a TD and set them up poorly a bunch.

Lynch needs to step up and smash some folks and Wilson needs to put his scramblin' pants on. No biggie.

Just wow. )I guess 3-13 is lock then? Never factored in a good quarterback into the equation obviously. Or the possibility that Wilson might be elite. <-->. Interesting.

Honestly, I'm not that worried about this. Russell will overcome. It's up to the RECEIVERS to make this happen. Our defense shows up. Russell shows up. It's time for our underrated receivers to show up. Notice I don't mention Marshawn. My dude shows up no matter what. He is the definition of elite.

This thread's great for so many reasons.

First, the mods have feared I'm going to go Warner28 (whatever that means). And, this was the evidence? I guess before, I was such a sunny and cheery poster? Using the term "whining" was out of character for me. I'm usually classier and more congenial than FlyingGreg, apparently.

Second, a few of the perennial doomsdayers have reared their heads. Not all, but a few.

I don't see a place when the Texans have the ball that they can exploit a mismatch. AJ Is hurt and foster isn't right either. I think it starts slow but as the defense tires Wilson makes them pay. Am I wrong? Is there a matchup advantage on offense for them?

Seattle goes for a walk in Texans Park.

The Seattle defense set the tone after the Texans won the toss and elected to receive. On 2nd and 9, from their own 26, Schaub dropped back to pass looking to his right, but never saw Clemmons who jarred the ball loose. It was scooped up by Big Red who waddled into the end zone for 6...End of story.

I've seen young children put up better strawmen.

At home we're not going to lose. On the road against lesser Ds it's less of a concern. Wilson's mobility save him and us quite a log.

On the road, vs. a tough defense and playoff caliber team (last couple years anyhow), it's tough sledding. That's the point being made. I've seen no one spout 3-13.

So I would say this was settled and the O-line injuries were an issue. An issue we overcame but still an issue
