I have a feeling this might get some pub here soon.

I just heard it on Bay Area Radio....

95.7 The GAME‏@957thegame12m
Dilfer on Seahawks: "Their defense is built around their home field advantage ... I would not call them a great defense on the road"

95.7 The GAME‏@957thegame8m
More of @TDESPN "The Seahawks defense are not even close to as physical as the #49ers"

He further added that when someone on the telecast last night called Seattle the most physical D in the NFL that he threw up a little in his mouth. No joke.

For the record, I don't completely agree with him, but kinda surprised to hear Dilfer say this.

Once the Podcast is available, I'll post the link. I heard it live just a few minutes ago.

EDIT: Found the Podcast...around the 5 minute mark after talking about his old Ravens D.

And that's a put down?

Peaches, really, it's the post Kerry Rhodes era now. Be open-minded.

Interesting...

While I would agree that the defense benefits huge from the 12th (what defense wouldn't?), I wouldn't say they are soft on the road...
This is the perception that Dilfer probably has based on a couple of lackluster defensive performances last year, but I don't think it's who this defense is... They seemed to fair ok against Carolina in week 1, no? Plus, let's be frank, isn't Dilfer a bit of a Niner homer himself?

Holmgren must have really pissed him off with the Hasselbeck saga.

Seriously, though, we held the Panthers to 7 (!) points on the road. Either Cam Newton and the Carolina O is awful (and I say that's not the case), or our D travels well. I mean, you can point out that they were hardly clutch last year, but that's different than not being physical.

Whatever. I guess we're talking about Dillweed.

Dilfer played 1 season for SF in 2007. So, why exactly, would he be a Niners' homer? You have some inside info?

Trent Dilfer is one of my favorites. I tuned in specifically because I knew he'd be on and was SHOCKED when he said that. I know he's a huge fan of RW.

I'd agree that the D is built around that stadium, but I wouldn't call them soft on the road either. Perhaps not quite as good, but Trent went WAY farther than I ever would.

He's still mad about Hasselbeck, that's all it is. It's not the first time he's said something bad about the Seahawks and it won't be the last.

Well, he played for Fresno, right?

I think he's just trying to sound 'objective.' Mostly, he sounds uninformed. :229031_shrug:

Funny that you should mention that...Holmgren was the very next guest on the show.

They asked Dilfer if he would like them to say anything to Holmgren and he said "tell him to call me back. We haven't spoken in a few years. He was upset that when I went to SF I gave away all the west coast secrets".

The notion itself is kinda funny tho...that someone could tell San Francisco coaches all about the West Coast offense.

Then again, this was probably Nolan...so I don't doubt it. Sigh.

I can't confirm he's a Niners homer, but he grew up in Northern California (Santa Cruz) and played college ball at Fresno State.

I dunno...he's been pretty poitive about them in the recent past here...in particular on Wilson.

Thats kinda why it surprised me.

That's an individual player though. Theres no love lost for the organization. I believe he even said something about how they treated Hasselbeck after he left

Dilfer and Steve Young were really annoying after the Green Bay game last year.

He grew up in Northern California, lives about 20 minutes from the team facility, and is pretty tight with several players and staff. I do like his QB analysis most of the time, but I wouldn't say he is the most objective when it comes to the Niners. Plus he was on a bay area radio station.

EDIT: I've heard him on the radio in the past say how his daughter was on the same volleyball team as one of the Niners' coach's daughter. It may have been in the Singletary era. Just as an example of how he may interact with them more often then other teams.

Also, he was the first person I heard that said Baalke was getting the GM job. At the time people thought the Baalke interest was just the team giving some love to an employee. Proved to me that Dilfer had some pretty good contacts in that organization.

Could be.

I never respected him as a player, but he's become one of my favorites as a commentator. He tends to be right...alot.

I don't agree with him on this one, but in the past he's said some things and I was surprised to find out later he was right.

He LOVED the selection of Kaepernick on draft day, but while he likes Kaepernick he's been more complimentary of the coaching staffs ability to put him in good situations. He's been incredibly positive on Wilson all along.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the further confirmation that 13thMan knows more about the 49ers than he lets on, but I was hoping that bait would fall to him.

Dilfer is often a guest on the Cowherd show... they have been known to quibble because while it's clear Cowherd is a Hawks homer, Dilfer is just as obviously a Niners homer... Maybe I'm wrong but that's the impression I get... Maybe Marvin49 could chime in on this?

EDIT: Nevermind, other posters have elaborated to support this....
